Andor Season 2

I am not sure if you are being serious or not

I am not sure if the show is trying to keep us confused. I can’t seem to remember what each character is doing, who is on which planet, and why they are there (the crop world?).

The alien language used in the public meeting of Episode 4 was too close to romance languages for me. My brain kept trying to switch into French.

They don’t call it Space Oil, but it is Space Oil.

That’s because they are the Space French Underground.

Space Oil:

That’s not a joke.

Agreed. But such is a very high bar. Still better than most else that is out there. The last of the three of this dump in particular got intense.

The show of course is trying to force us to really consider if Krennic has a point there with the terrorist/rebel sarcastic line? Luthen is just as willing to sacrifice a planet full of people for the cause, to have it burn brightly, as Krennic is. Neither has any qualms if it is for the good of the Cause/Empire.

So do Dedra & Partagaz just not trust Syril to keep his mouth shut, or do they think he’d have some moral qualms about their end goal?
The final scene with Saw was excellent. Forest Whitaker is so, so good.
And we know that Lonni knew where Gorst was working know, and likely passed that on to Luthen. Was his removal an approved operation, or were Cassian & Bix working off the books?

I don’t think they care one way or the other about him (Professionally. I think it is still up in the air whether her romantic feelings are real or not). He’s a tool they are making use of to achieve what they want.

But Partagaz specifically confirmed with Dedra that she’s keeping Syril in the dark.

“You walk a very narrow path Dedra. Syril must never know what this is all really about.”
“I remind myself constantly sir.”

That’s got to lead to something in the future - maybe when Syril finds out they were baiting the Ghorman rebels so they’d have an excuse to gut the planet, he’ll have a change of heart?

Interesting. As a (poor) French speaker, it made it difficult to follow. The subtitles did not match what I thought they were saying.

Still finding this season compelling knowing as it creeps towards Rogue One that while we know the fates of a couple of key characters the rest of them to the writers are all expendable narrative wise. Curious to see if they are willing to kill off people like Luthen, Dedra, Bix, Syril, etc.
Nothing keeping them to keep their character arcs going for a season 3.

I don’t think the fates of characters like Dedra or Syril are set, but Luthen and Bix are toast for sure.

I definitely see that as the set up. He rigidly believes in doing what he thinks is right no matter what cost he has to pay. Moral grey does not compute.

They could always bring characters back in the post-OT shows (Mandolorian, Ashoka, etc.)

The Ghor scenes were quite fascinating. I know a bit of French and it seemed as if they were speaking that but I couldn’t understand anything. Have to give them props for inventing a language that really supports the general theme and atmosphere.

I wonder if I should have re-watched Season 1 before this. I am often just vaguely confused about some of the more minor characters like Saw Gerrera.

Overall I agree that this season is not as good as 1 but still pretty solid. In particular I think the whole Ghorman plotline has been very solidly developed. So far the good guys are obviously clueless and being easily manipulated by their enemies but that sets up all sorts of interesting possibilities for a reversal of fortune.

I did rewatch all of season 1 a day or two before season 2 started, definitely helpful.

Saw Gerrera isn’t one of the minor characters in the sense that he is only in Andor, he was in Rogue One and in the series Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch.

I saw Rogue One when it was released and haven’t seen the others. I suppose the canon has expanded enormously in the last 10 years and for those who haven’t seen most of it, there will always be a certain baseline level of confusion. It’s OK so long as you understand the main story which has not been a problem.

Andor doesn’t rely on knowledge of previous Star Wars properties to follow the story. There are Easter eggs in the show but that’s basically it. So if you know what the Starkiller armor is, you’re going to be delighted to see it in Luthen’s shop. But if you have no idea what it is (I think it’s from one of the video games) you aren’t really missing out on anything. Compare this to Ahsoka which is a show that I generally liked but also felt like I didn’t understand half of because I haven’t watched Rebels.
For Andor, I’d recommend one of those ten minute recaps from Youtube to re-familiarize yourself with Brasso, Bix, Wilmon, Dedra, Syril, etc. But so far it has been what you see is what you get.

Since the next episode again will jump forward a year I’m still unclear about what the Ghormans were trying to accomplish with the highjack and also what the ISB was trying to accomplish by letting them complete the highjack. Thought maybe it was a setup in which the Ghormans would destroy the payload sight unseen and then the ISB would reveal it was medical supplies or somesuch to make them look bad.
Are we to assume the Ghorman plotline has wrapped or is it just the beginning of an ISB long game?

Trying to prove the empire was building an armory in the middle of their main city. Also getting some weapons.

An excuse to escalate against them.

I am assuming that by the next year, when we resume, most Ghormans will be dead or have left the planet from the side effects of The Empire’s mineral extractions which were presumably necessary for The Death Star.
