As you probably now, Fanfiction.mobile site is full of ads. That is nothing new. But today, when I would visit Fanfiction.net, my Android would sometimes automatically download ads. Not all the ads, just some of them. And I’m sure I never clicked on any of them. It just happened. They would all end up in the Documents folder, around 100 kB in size. The file name read something like “google.ad.doubleclick” or similar. I never opened any of the files and deleted them immediately. Eventually, a notification popped up, saying “This site wants you to download…” ads or something? I don’t remember what it said, exactly. I clicked the “Block” option and since then, the problem has stopped.
Ads didn’t even appear sketchy, just normal shopping ads, in my native language (I live in Europe).
I was pretty worried, so I checked my phone for viruses and malware. Nothing was found. Then I checked my apps, worried that some sort of malicious app has been auto installed on my phone. But I didn’t find anything suspicious, it was all the same like it had been yesterday.
I wasn’t even logged into my Fanfiction or Google account when it happened. I just went to the site and it happened.
I have since encountered multiple other ads on the site, and nothing similar has happened. And that only happened on Fanfiction.net, not any other sites with ads.
Has anyone else experienced that? What could be the cause of it? I think I heard that Androids sometimes do that, usually with video ads, and that some ads are designed that way, but I’m not sure. Thank you in advance.
