Anyone know if/when we’re in for more repeats of Angel this season?
Splem?
Sponathan!
OY vey. I think I’ve just created next season’s BB- a demon that continously causes Spike to fall into bed with various members of the Fang Gang, in pairings slashy and otherwise, creating intense jealousy among the characters, thus destroying their effectiveness as a fighting force.
And since we seem to be going for the gross-out her how about…

Sponnor!!!
[sub]Oh, and Miller, Clem is cute, but he’s not that cute.[/sub]
Ok, I missed it as I was doing wedding planning. Stupid wedding planning…
anyone want to fill me in on what happened?
e
I, too, missed last night’s episode, so if someone with knowledge on how to work spoiler boxes wouldn’t mind…
Interjection -
The Tim, I am right there with you on the Hunter thing. I was thinking it almost right from the beginning and then it just went further - “You’ve been called …”
Indeedy.
Oh, yeah, great ep. I’m starting to like Fred more and more. There is all sorts of depth to her character that they haven’t really gotten to yet, and Amy Acker is certainly an excellent actress. Very cool.
Great episode, great twists, great direction and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time (the upside to being spoiler free).
Everything that Buffy has not been for 2 years sadly enough. Hopefully a few Buffy character can be saved next season. A few crossover type events would be nice. Not sure about Spike-- have 2 Vamps with Souls in the same town seems a bit much if you ask me, but if they could make it work from a plot stand point I would go with the flow. Just as long as they don’t ruin Angel the way they did Buffy.
Let me second-
Splem!
Now that’s just wrong!
Spandrew anyone?
Unlike most people, I haven’t been much impressed with this season as a whole. Most of my problem is that the whole season has felt like they’re trying to cram in far too much stuff. Have to wrap up the left-overs from last season. Have to introduce electric gal. Have to work in Cordelia’s pregnancy. Have to bring Angelus back. Have to bring Faith back.
Aside from the fact that most of the things on Mutant Enemy’s “To Do” list seemed like sweeps stunts, the result has been (for me) a season where the story doesn’t flow naturally from one point to the next. In short, the season has felt forced and rushed to me.
That said, last night was what I’ve been missing. They took their time to establish a mood, which resulted in a wonderful sense of creepy paranoia. We got to focus a little on the characters. Fred got something to do and her sense of loss and isolation was effective.
Best episode all season.
Unfortunately, it seems like next week is right back to the same old soap opera crap.
The impression I got was that Fred was/became immune to Jasmine’s enchantment because of her previous mental illness. When the Fang Gang found her in Lorne’s home dimension (forgive me for forgetting the name), she was pretty nutso. Perchance her experience being insane gave her some sort of protection against Jasmine’s whammy? What made me think that was the question she asked Stoller in the hosptal, something to the effect of, “Have you been crazy before?”
And not to widdle in anyone’s Cheerios, but I was disappointed with last night’s ep. Too much talk without enough plot development – they could have advanced the plot further in less time.
Zanshin it wasn’t a plot focused episode. It need to do only a little in the way of plot in order to get down the creepiness.
Also I don’t think it is past psychotic episodes. She asked that question to try and established that he was crazy and that she wasn’t. Additionally she wasn’t immune to the whammy right off the bat. He seemed to believe that it meant something special, that they were called to deal with Jasmine. Now there is of course a disturbing possibility. What if Jasmine doesn’t look like that but the sick face is instead an illusion from the Powers That Be and Still Are trying to provoke the right people. The immunity isn’t an innate quality but is instead conferred at key moments. They need a light hand because Jasmine is going to pick up on too much of their meddling and can presumably see their tricks sometimes (as Cordy saw the Darla vision). Just random speculation.
Gorgon Heap I was waiting for crazy guy to babble about messangers or some such. I would imagine that the message Fred would get while being Imbued would be “They worship this?” I was just trying to figure out her Creed, though given that she just slinked away she’d probably be a bystander and the guy definitely an Avenger.
Oh and does anyone else think it is kinda funny that this episode has all glowing uncritical reviews except for two who didn’t like it.
I liked it, but it dragged. Probably couldn’t be helped, but there was no story until Fred discovered the truth, which should have been completely obvious to the audence anyway; they were going on so long about how evil everything was that you’d have to be unconscious the entire season to believe that Jasmine was really a good guy. So the entire first half dragged.
The image of the real Jasmine, though probably necessary, missed an important possibility. What if she really was good, with an ugly appearance? Why does gross = evil?
I don’t have a problem with focusing on establishing a mood, especially if you’re going to fake out the viewer by pulling a characteristic Joss Whedon right-before-the-end-credits-oh-my-god-I-can’t-believe-they-did-that move (the one that’s guaranteed to make me stand up off my couch and yell, “NO WAY!”). JW’s done that in both Buffy and Angel to good effect. I just felt last night dragged entirely too much to really establish good mood. We got two or three speeches from Angel about how guilty he felt about trying to off Jasmine, WAY too much screen time from Connor (who I hate anyways)… The episode didn’t really take off until Fred saw Jasmine’s face for the first time and when she visited Stoller in the hospital. I think they could have established Jasmine’s ookyness in less time while still retaining a good creepy atmosphere.
I believe it is all new through the finale! Angel is in more of a rush this year since they have to finish in time for Angel to head over to Sunnydale.
Aargh. We’re still a week behind in BC… Guess I gotta go check last week’s thread.
Just because we thought it was well done hardly means that we are “uncritical”.
Anyway, when it comes to Buffy or Angel, somebody always doesn’t like an episode. Even classic episodes and arcs have their naysayers. Individual fan’s built-in biases are particulary strong, and if the episodes don’t match those sets of expectations regarding the characters then certain people get cheesed (which will vary based on the issue at hand).
I wonder if the spell that was cast on Angelus to trick Lorne into believing Angel had a soul has anything to do with Jasmine. I mean, didn’t part of the spell require the head of some undead creature? Jasmine’s true form looks quite the undead type.
Also, I didn’t know Fred knew how to drive. Since when did they have cars?
