Very nice OP rosie. It sounds like you sort of had fun with a few moments of irksomeness.
Meeks, nice pictures.
**Tara, **
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Shibb, congrats on the new nephew. Babies are cute and all, but I am so glad mine are teens now and that I’m not having anymore.
Swampy, wow, quite a bit of drama, eh? Can’t blame the kids, not one bit. Good for them, I say.
Mr. Taters and I were just going to run down to the courthouse to get married, but there was a hue and cry from both sides of the family. We still didn’t do anything too fancy. We held the wedding at the in-laws, had a judge come and do the wedding, held the reception at the in-laws and everyone brought food in addition to the food we ordered. We rented a champagne fountain and chairs. It was a good time and the weather was lovely. The sun was out and it was warm enough to be outside with a coat. This is a rarity in January.
Drae, I’m sorry about your heiney. I hope it gets to feeling better.
Great MMP, rosie! We do need to hear any recordings you can get your paws on.
Tara, happy birthday! Drae, ouch. Does this mean in two years I won’t be able to climb fences any more? That sucks.
Shibb, congratulation on the new family member!
I still smell kind of like smoke from the weekend, which was lovely and relaxing. We went to Attacks Husband’s family farm. I made many fires, Driving Husband and Mr. Lissar threw knives, Quasi-Daughter tidied things, and Attacks Husband chopped wood. We watched Solaris, roasted marshamallows, and hung around reading. It was awesome. I set a centipede on fire,
The farm fridge is now very tidy. I have many pictures of Quasi-Daughter in her natural element, tidying things.
The cats only threw up once in our absence, and were wildly loving when we got home last night. I have tidying and stuff to do, but I think I’ll go to Mass at noon, and then tackle everything after.
LiLi did you on purpose or accidentally set a caterpillar on fire? Are we talkin’ about a little fuzzy critter or this. It’d be a good story either way but especially if you sat the latter on fire.
Shibb congrats on the nephew! Buy him loud and noisy things so he can entertain his parents for hours on end.
Nice pics Mika!
I have been called a giver of sage and wise advice. See, a co-worker is getting married. I told her that she should never miss a chance to remind her fiance what a great catch she is. She pronounced that to be sage and wise advice.
Hi everyone. Sorry for my impromptu disappearance. It’s what happens when I have nothing to do. I lose all focus and literally do nothing.
Anyway, for those following along in your programs, the second half of my qualifier exam was an official bomb. I was expecting to be able to answer 2 or 3 questions. I actually got 1/3 of one question. :o Oh well. They didn’t expect me to pass anyway.
Friday night was interesting. I met up with 4 of my fellow incoming physics grad students, and one roommate (in Comp Sci), and we went on a little nighttime hike up a hill to an old and no-longer-in-use firetower. The view was spectacular and breathtaking. I’ve never seen such a night sky before - I’m accustomed to loads of light pollution. After that we went back to one of our apartments and made smores and watched American Beauty, which I hadn’t seen before. It was an excellent movie, I thought.
Saturday I explored the “business section” of Hanover. There are some very cute stores. Sunday I did nothing. Today I need to set up a bank account, and then I have some orientation activities in the afternoon and evening. My life is so much fun.
Speaking of fun, I owe you all two puns.
Great MMP, rosie! I’m glad you all had such a good time.
Drae - sorry about your fall. What a bummer. Your shoes flew off from a 3-foot fall? Weird.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TARRAGON!!
May I say, I’ve always thought you were a paragon of tarragon.
Good morning everyone. Happy birthday to those of you whose birthday it is (though I suspect Shibb’s nephew probably isn’t posting here yet!
The weekend was a very lazy one, with the majority of it spent playing Final Fantasy X. I’ve played it before, with my husband, but this is the first time I play it alone. Except for Blitzball. I just don’t understand it, so it’s my husband’s job to play and play Blitzball until he gets whatever he needs to get from it for me to get everything done in the game (except I already screwed up by missing a treasure chest in Bevelle - I just didn’t see it! - but there is no way I’m doing that tedious Cloister of Trials again!) I’m also avoiding the butterfly challenge for now… so by “everything done in the game” I really just mean “everything I feel like doing that will let me finish it!”
I’m hoping the company will call me to organize a formal job offer. I did the medical exam on Friday, and everything should be fine. That exam sucked, though, because the nurse screwed up the urine drug test and didn’t get the temperature, so I had to stay and drink water for another 2 hours until I could pee again! I was pretty pissed off (heh), but when I said I had to leave to get the car back to my husband, they told me I couldn’t go, that they’d have to notify the company paying for the test, it was a huge fucking deal. No apologies for the fact that it was their incompetent nurse that fucked up. I asked them, if she fucks it up a second time, can I just go home? Their explanation for everything was “well, it’s a DRUG test”. No much of an explanation! Way to assume everyone who walks in must automatically be cheating. Then, as I sat in the waiting room chugging water and waiting for the urge to go pee again, they kept asking me every 15 minutes “are you ready yet?” Uh. No. I don’t know about the rest of you, but it’s not exactly an on-command bodily function for me. Considering they were nurses, you’d think they’d have a better grasp of biology. (As for my husband, he took the bus downtown, then took the car from my expired parking meter, went to his interview and drove home later, while I took the bus home).
So, if, after all that, I don’t get the job, I will be very very angry.
Oh, and I live next to a church and the bells are ringing right now… I love that! It’s such a pretty sound.
Hi everybody! I’m actually at work and have a semi-normal looking week coming up. I might actually be able to keep up with the MMP! I miss it when I’m busy. But OTOH, I do prefer to be busy at work than to have to pretend to be busy when I’m not. Know what I mean?
Happy Birthday Tara!!
Sorry to hear about your fencing accident, Drae… wait… that didn’t quite come out right. Um… hope you feel better anyway.
Our wedding’s going to be pretty small but still formal with a wedding gown and all. But only our parents, KeithT’s sister, and a couple friends are invited. 18 people including us. I didn’t want to go quite so far as to elope, but I also didn’t want our extended families there. KeithT’s may be ok (I haven’t met too many of them yet.), but mine’s nuts. If they were there, instead of having fun, everyone would be stressed about who would say what to whom and who would get offended and so on. Not my idea of fun. So we’ll have a very small group, but a group that should all get along and have a good time and not care if the color of the napkins matches… well, anything.
Speaking of the upcoming wedding, we managed to get our flights booked over the weekend. It was a lot harder than it should have been. **KeithT ** did a LOT of work trying to find a schedule that would work, wouldn’t cost as much as the rest of the whole wedding, and wouldn’t involve spending two days and three nights in airports.
The problem is that we have to fly from here to MA where the wedding is and then to FL to where we get on the cruise and then back here. So 3 legs. And we ended up with 3 different airlines being the best answer. Isn’t that ridiculous?? But at least two of them are low-cost carriers, which makes me happy. They’re usually nicer and I always seem to have better experiences with them than the big guys. And I really wanted to avoid NW because there still could be strikes sometime… I don’t want to be stranded somewhere trying to get to the wedding or the honeymoon because the airline is trying to screw its workers and its workers are pissed. ::sigh::
Anywho, we got that planned, and we scheduled a snorkel-with-the-stingrays thing for while we’re on the cruise. So at least that part is set. We may not have the wedding itself, the music, the food, or anything else planned, but the honeymoon is set!
Hey Taxi! I was just thinking about e-mailing you but I’ll just ask you here. Which one is Academy Hall at RPI? (I suppose Spats could answer, too.) Is it enar the pedestrian bridge? Can someone please give me directions to it?
Academy Hall is the building formerly known as Old School 14. And it should still be known as Old School. But that’s neither here nor there.
Anyway, if you’re coming from Route 7, yeah, go under the bridge, past the new biotech building and it’s the one that looks like an old school (which would be obvious if they hadn’t renamed it) on the right hand side just before College Ave.
I can beat that. Me and my sweetie, a notary in an accounting office, “witnessed” by a couple of people in the office on their lunch break. No one there who knew us. $10, then to McD’s for a quick lunch.
It’s lasted almost 23 years, so I guess we did it right.
doggy is that Moxie cola I see? So you’re a Bud man, hmmm, interesting. I also spy a bottle of margarita mix. No milk? What’s the stuff in those two little tubs? What’s that that says Carolina on it? I see eggs, margarine, some kind of jelly or jam. Are those flat lookin’ packages bacon? What’s the Big K thing? What’s in the pitcher?
What? If he’s gonna show us what’s in his fridge, he should know he’ll have to explain it.
I think the Big K stuff is sodie pop. Also, those two little tubs thingies look like apple sauce to me.
I don’t want to be here at work. I’m finding it difficult to be motivated today.
Did I mention that we **THREW AWAY ** $120.00 on Saturday? Yup, after taking hubby out to dinner on Saturday for some very good eats with some friends, we were talked into going to the casino. I knew it wasn’t a good idea for me to go. I just wasn’t feelin’ it, ya know?
Hubby seemed to have better luck, but instead of cashing in, he kept playing and eventually lost everything. Oh well, it’s not like we go real often. The last time was well over a year ago. Still, I don’t like have not having something to show for spending money. Even if it’s only food in the tummy…that’s just me, though. I’m kind of a cheapskate when it comes to stuff like that.
It’s hot and sticky. Where did fall go? I want it back.
I just ate lunch out, because I realised that I haven’t had an actual meal since yesterday’s brunch- just some m&ms and a handful of dried cherries. So that is why I was feeling tired. I haven’t forgotten to eat in months.
Time to laze around and maybe clean the fridge out and get the laundry ready for tomorrow. The lazing is the important part.
The weekend was wonderful - except for the driving 457 miles each way part. I sat in the back seat with Mr. SCL driving and his sister riding shotgun. We listened to a book on CD of “Rivergod” by Wilbur Smith on the way up - I do not recommend it. The main character was way too full of himself for my taste. The book is set in ancient Egypt and was full of hurling and revolting and such. The name of one of the characters was the same sound a cat makes right before it presents you with a hairball.
Sister in law brought her Garmin GPS navigation system, which was fun. If it tells you to make a turn and you don’t make it, it says “recalculating” in this very teeth-clentched type of voice. We got lots of laughs out of it, especially toward the end of the trip when we were tired and getting a bit slap-happy. At one point Mr. SCL asked the Garmin if it needed a cigarette as much as he did!
We arrived in High Point about 1:30 am Saturday, and slept until noon, when we went to sister in law Ann’s, whose birthday it was (the reason for the trip). She was suprised and pleased to see us. We socialized for a while, then went back to the hotel to change for dinner. One of Ann’s daughters had booked a limo to take us to dinner, so 11 of us crammed into this loooooooooong white limo and went to dinner, which was very yummy - and I had a chocolate martini! Back to the house for cake and ice cream and present opening - she could have played cards with all the gift cards she got!
I was impressed with the Marriott we stayed at - each bed had 5 pillows. I require at least 3, so I usually take my own. Very comfy.
We left High Point about 3, and got in about 10 last night. The Prius averaged 49mpg for the trip. The cats did not eat well while I was gone. I am glad to be home, although I did not do any shopping at all while I was gone. That is very unusual - I try to get a stuffed cat each time I go somewhere. Mr.SCL, the old grouch, wouldn’t even stop at the outlet mall.
Drae, I have fallen in much the same way you describe - if you are not felling better in a day or so hie thee to the doctor. I hope you are already better.
