In a recent interview, Angelina Jolie claims that she’s been totally misunderstood all these years. She has a reputation as a sex fiend but she’s now saying she’s only had four lovers in her life: Brad Pitt; her two husbands, Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller; and one other man who she didn’t name.
Now I don’t want to cast doubts on any woman’s claims about her past. And I’ll admit I’ve never personally had sex with Ms Jolie. But I’m finding this sudden revelation a little hard to swallow. If she was so misunderstood all these years, why did she play up her “bad girl” rep for so long and wait until now to set the record straight?
My guess is she’s decided it’s time to change her image and she’s trying to retrofit herself with a new past. And I suspect the mystery “fourth man” is so none of the men she’s slept with over the years can immediately call her out as a liar.
What’s interesting is that she also had a lesbian lover for a while, too. I suppose if there isn’t a penis involved, perhaps it’s not technically de-virginizing her?
If a woman had one short-term lover then remained chaste the rest of her life, then MAYBE I’d classify her as a “near virgin.” But a succession of four steady lovers…? That’s not virginal; that’s normal.
PunditLisa beat me to it. No matter how chaste she is compared to her reputation, even taking her at her word stretches the concept of “near-virgin.” Can a near-virgin get nearly pregnant?
This woman annoys me to no end. So you used to wear vials of blood around your neck and make out with your brother, but now you’re a saintly earth mother bent on adopting the entire world. We GET it. Now go the hell away.
When I saw her on Inside the Actor’s Studio, she said that she was living with a much older lover when she was in high school. With her mother’s consent. She also was romantically involved with Jenny Shimizu during the filming of Foxfire (1993?).
A little math: she was born in 1975, married to Miller in 1996. Maybe there was no lover between her high school boyfriend and Miller except Shimizu. She says she got an H tattooed on her wrist in honor of her brother, James Havens, and her lover at the time Timothy Hutton, but… she never fucked Hutton? Really?
I think her claim is bullshit. She’s already said enough in the press to refute it. It’s just bizarre for her to try to go back and rewrite it. And lame.
I had a friend who didn’t count blow jobs as sex (or cheating!). If it wasn’t penetration, it wasn’t sex. Maybe Angie is of the same notion?
Re: her “Earth mother” persona. All I can say is age and parenthood change people. Drastically, in some cases. I certainly don’t hold it against her that she has chosen a different, more grounded path. I’d think people would be happy for her that she found a deeper meaning in her life. She’s got it going on. I don’t know too many people who can claim to give away 1/3 of their income for the benefit of others. Don’t hate her because she’s beautiful. And smart. And generous.

BTW, I don’t hate her. I wouldn’t leave her alone in a room with my husband, or anyone else’s, but really, she’s an actress. Who cares what she does? It’s just funny that she’s trying to change her image by trying to rewrite a pretty public sexual history. She also claims she’s not an adultress, though clearly she got involved with Thorton and Pitt when they were involved with other women. I get the sense that she’s not very honest when it comes to sexual matters.
