Ann Coulter again -- on Jimmy Carter

Didn’t Nixon pay for his own Secret Service coverage?

Coulter’s a lunatic.

You’ll forgive me if I’m naive (I’m not familiar with Coulters “work”), but I didn’t read any racism on Coulters part in that excerpt, nor do I follow your suggestion that because her father was abusive Coulter is suggesting that “it…follows all black people are abusive”. It does seem odd to identify with the abusive, neglecting parent rather than the caring attentive parent.

Although, I think the assumption that Berry has chosen her race as a political statement is far less likely than having it thrust upon her under the good-ole “one drop” rule throughout her entire life. But I digress, having picked the nit I intended.

Ace0Spades: Haven’t read it yet but I really want to. Apparently she also had a diet consisting entirely of champagne and cigarettes.
BF: Unfortunately, I saw her on Politically Incorrect.

Yeah, but sometimes I like being wasteful!

I thought Nixon wasn’t wealthy. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth… where would he have gotten the bread for that kind of thing? He sure wasn’t in high demand on the speaking circuit after he resigned.

Yeah, but there’s no success like excess.

He received substantial consulting fees between the time he lost the election for President in 1960 and when he finally ran again in 1968.

I remember reading an article back then where he had provided some foreign-affairs related advice to someone, maybe an international company. He allowed the client to set the fee, and expressed surprise at how large it was.

Beelzebubba: Well, that’s why I said “crypto-” racism. That paragraph alone is not racist, but having seen a lot of her other work, well, patterns begin to emerge. Such as calling for the forcible conversion of all Muslims to Christianity under the penalty of death, say. Or her assertation that Christianity is the only religon in the world that doesn’t practice cannibalism. In short, she’s a rabid, vile-minded idiot who has long since forfeited any benefit of the doubt in my mind, and I feel comfortable automatically assuming the worst in everything she says and does.

I don’t assume to speak for her, but my thoughts are that she is trying to use her absurd (even to her, I’m sure) call for such conversions to demonstrate the fact that the Muslim extremists call for forcible conversion of followers of other religeons.

One thing we all need to remember is that people like Coulter, Michael Moore, and their ilk HAVE to be outrageous, otherwise no one would pay attention. Watching a show with a couple of agreeable, reasonable people would be about as much fun as watching the grass grow.

Yeah, but it seems like a lot of low-profile conservatives have gotten their panties in a bunch over Halle Berry’s Oscar win, like the “regular folks” over here.

Gee, Berry couldn’t have won the Oscar because she was actually talented, could she?

they do?

I don’t see these comments as examples of racism. Religous bigotry, maybe…

Not generally, no. Not, certainly, in regards to Xtians and Jews who are people of the book. Killing the ‘enemies of Islam’ among them, yes --which for some folks means just about everyone, but forced conversion talk is vanishingly rare. The sura mentioning no compulsion in religion is a tripping point. The prior argument is called making it up as you go along.

thanks , Collounsbury, that’s what I thought.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Every once in a while, in the Pit, you actually come across a line worth stealing.

Speak for yourself. I would enjoy seeing reasonable people debate on tv. It would be a nice change.

Ann Coulter weirds me out. I think she’s a robot. With little winches behind her ears to pull her fake skin tight.
