(Why can’t a black woman be a forest ranger? Well, that’s not important. Let’s just move on.)
Then we get to this gem:
I think “abomination of a presidency” is a little harsh. If anything, he was too nice and concilatory. Maybe ‘ol Ann finds fault with that, though; instead of the Camp David accords we should have tried to convert both sides to Christianity or something. But suggesting that Carter is doing Habitat for Humanity for political reasons? Now that’s just a low fuckin’ blow! Even if it were true, does that mean he shouldn’t do it? Does she completely discount his deep Christian faith? I don’t see her out helping out any poor people. Hypocrite. Damn! Picking on Carter. That’s just sad.
Scarily, I actually agree with some things she said here. This part, in particular.:
Sounds more like Michael Moore than Ann Coulter. On the other hand, this:
sounds like typical Coulterese crypto-racism. Yes, her father was abusive. It therefore follows that all black people are abusive. Also, Berry’s decision to self-identify as black was entirely her own choice. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but this country club does not allow blacks.” “Oh, that’s alright, my mother was white, so I am too.” “Ah, my mistake. Come right in.” I don’t think so.
Ann Coulter, apparently not making it as a lawyer, has discovered that there are plenty of people who will pay top dollar to see a well educated and well-groomed person play to their hatreds. It is the price we pay for having free speech that others will abuse it.
(a) Ann’s got a problem because nobody is asking her to “display her large breasts for the camera and to discuss her large breasts at some length with reporters”.
(b) ??Carter?? Habitat a Democrat political move? WTF?
Coulter’s a rabid dolt, but she made some very good points here, even if they might have been wholly accidental. Julia Roberts’s antics WERE ridiculous. There WAS a strong whiff of condescension in much of the tone of the evening. And Berry’s harping about racism IS self-serving and not entirely honest. Even Coulter speaks the truth now and then.
Is it just me, or do even the most vile Republicans seem lucid when discussing racial politics? Ann “Kill the Liberals” made a readable column! Only so much vomit in the system, I guess.
Ding! Hey, you know what I hate? When affirmative action gives us a criminally partisan Supreme Court. We’ll recall Berry if you recall Thomas. Deal?
Ah well. Then the temporary sanity flees: Did you know? Hollwood is chock-a-block with traitors!
Leni Riefenstahl, cancel that anti-american movie! Clear the set, America needs “Collateral Damage 2,” now!
Andros, yer zeitgeisterrific! BigKahunaburger, ouch. Have you read “Blinded by the Right” yet? Apparently Ann was the model for “A little bit nutty and a little bit slutty!”
Carter, while perhaps not a great president, has proven to be a wonderful example of how one can contribute to society after the presidency. Can anyone recall another former president who straps on a workbelt and builds (not supervises) homes for poor people. I don’t see Bush senior building anything other than his bank account.
Ann Coulter did make some interesting points (as much as I loathe to admit it) but the Carter remark was based purely on hate of his party affiliation. It was undeserved and idiotic.
