Another 'Fes up' - I actually like

Admit your tastes that many will find disgusting.
I’ll go first (this is not meant to be a debate, we all have different tastes).

  • American Cheese. I like ALL cheese, but American is just right sometimes. Same for Velveeta.
  • Pringles potato chips. Or whatever they are. There is some form of potato in there. Probably what get’s swept off the floor. They are processed, and then processed about three more times.
  • I like all corn chips, but Fritos corn chips is sometimes a must have.
  • There are a couple of Campbell soups that just hit the spot. My wife and I are good cooks and make mulligatawny and potato chili cheese chowder a few times a year. But… Cambells chicken 'n Dumplings is needed at some time.
  • I like a good cracker, but sometimes only saltines will do. A handful of them are quite satisfying.
  • Smarties candies. Basically a colored roll of sugar.
  • The chili recipe we use is from a 1960 Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. We hardly tweak it at all. It’s yummy.

Smoky mezcals and peaty scotches. The more they taste like cigarette butts, the more I like them. Strangely, I’ve never been a smoker. And I hate wildfire smoke. I do love the smell of leftover campfire on my shirts, though…

I’ve only met a couple of other people who like these (who actually drinks them?). The overwhelming majority of my friends and family are utterly disgusted by them.

I’d say it’s an acquired taste, except it wasn’t… the first time I ever had a strongly peated drink was when my disgusted friend tried to pawn it off after one sip. Four other people tried and hated it. I took one sip, instantly fell in love, and have been trying to find ever-smokier ones ever since.

I like NECCO wafers. and Smarties.

Nothing wrong with Pringles either, nice reliable chip.

I always have bacon egg and cheese sandwiches with mayonnaise rather than ketchup.

I’m a cereal mixer, if there’s two kinds of cereal open, and maybe some granola, I’m putting it all in a bowl.

Saltines are must in my bowl of soup. Doesn’t matter what kind of soup–chili, chicken noodle, ham & beans, potato, etc, etc., Saltines will be added to my bowl.

Oyster crackers are an acceptable substitute.

Who puts ketchup on it? I’ve never seen that.

In the NYC area it’s dead common to get a BEC with SPK (salt pepper ketchup).

It’s a thing.

Not MY thing, but a thing.

I’m usually pretty open to eatin’ stuff but get the most pushback from friends about my fondness for black licorice and similar anise products.

I like ketchup and mustard on a hotdog.

Here in the UK there is something called Salad Cream. It exists because there was a time when mayonnaise could not be stuck in a jar for refrigerated use. It still exists as some awful substitute. I love it. It tastes of culinary sin. Highest possible recommendation?

I like my hotdogs (on the rare occasions when I have one) with just ketchup.

Peeps

Love ‘em.

Spicy brown mustard for my wieners. Or baked beans if I can find some in the house.

I suck the chocolate off Malted Milk Balls, then crush the malted part.

I like anchovies a lot.

Like, a lot.

Mrs. Odesio likes Smarties and so do I. But Necco Wafers? Are you a Civil War veteran or something? That’s some serious old time candy. Thank you for your service. Wait a minute. Which side were you on?

I like Taco Bell. I like their burritos, tacos, and their Mexican pizzas. It’s good stuff.

I just rediscovered this last week. I had a restaurant smash burger with American cheese, It was just right. Crispy edges on the patty and creamy, mild cheese were the perfect combination. I did it again when I made burgers for Father’s day, but that was more about what was in the host’s fridge, than a culinary plan.

Yes, and neat. Did a whisky tour in Edinburgh, and tried it all the ways, and I could taste the difference between neat and a drop of water or over ice, but just plain, straight whisky, the peatier the better, was what I preferred. Too bad my stomach can’t handle more than about half a shot.

A toasted cheese with mayonnaise can be fun. One of those things where too much fat is a good thing. Not an everyday, or even monthly food.

My own confession? I like the Costco bagels (I think baked by Einsteins). I’ve had better bagels, I know places nearby where I can buy better bagels (not Einsteins). I don’t care. I want something I can pull out of the fridge in the morning and eat without having to plan extra shopping trips, or feel guilty because after 3 days they’re noticeably worse than when fresh. Costco ones taste the same the day I buy them or a week later.

I like to chew on really stale baguettes.

I greatly enjoy circus peanuts.

Since this thread ISN’T restricted to food, I’ll mention a recent thread I did based on songs:

Outside of food, and certain songs, I also admit that I have a sneaking fondness for various “OP protagonist” wish fulfillment stories. Yeah, they’re geared at people decades younger than I am, but sometimes reading a classic about some punk ROFL-stomping legions of goombas is still fun.

First choice - Lagavulin
Second choice - Laphroaig
Both neat.

(Third choice is Oban.)

Iceberg lettuce: It adds nice texture to a salad.
