Another SDMB fantasy football league

Don’t remind me, Senor. In my second league, I went up against Romo and Johnson on Turkey Day. I’ve already capitulated.

In both this league and another league, I have Romo and Hasselbeck. Hasselbeck’s supposed to be back this week, so I was going back and forth. I guess I made the right decision.

I’m like the Dolphins, winning games when it doesn’t matter.

It’s depressing going into sunday knowing you have to have remarkable performances from several people just to compete.

Oh, also, it’s depressing going into sunday being a Browns fan.

I’m doubly screwed.

It matters. Don’t think we haven’t noticed your rapid ascension up the standings. You could end up with home-field in the first round.

I tried to find a way to fit Braylon Edwards onto my starting roster, but there’s just no one I can put ahead of. My gut tells me TJ isn’t going to have a big day, but Edwards is… but… I have to go with what’s more reliable.

So, here’s my prediction. Braylon Edwards, 130 yards, 2 TDs.

Okay, I see how this works.

There’s a mysterious force that lets whoever I don’t start score 3 touchdowns. I knew that much.

But, there’s an exception to this. When I make a prediction, making me look stupid is a higher priority for this mysterious force than making me pissed about my selections.

Bah!

BAH!

So Joseph Addai puts up a very LT-on-his-best-day-like 44.8 points.

But unfortunately, that meant that he basically sucked the rest of the points out of the Colts offense. Harrison had 0.8 points, Manning had 11.32. Blah. Garcia, in the same game, had 16 points. And Vince Young, my backup that I didn’t remotely consider starting, had over 30.

Willie Parker SUCKED. When Denver was still giving up less than 1 TD per game, I pulled Willie against them, only to see him score like 26 points. I decided then and there that I would always start Willie regardless of matchups.

But had I yanked him for Deuce McAlister (19.6) or Jones-Drew (18.5), I’d be way ahead instead of 1 point behind.

It sucks to score 97 points and still lose.

Once again I must choose between Reggie Bush and Brandon Jacobs, and once again I choose incorrectly. Unless Deion is neon tonight, that choice will cost me a victory.

I stand by my assertion that I’m like the Dolphins. Like them, I have to win every single game to make the playoffs. I don’t like my chances next week against the Mighty Devils.

If it helps at all, it looks like my inspired Green Bay Defense makes your incorrect flex choice moot after all

(okay, okay, so it was desperation when Philly was going against the Colts and there was no one remotely decent on the wire. But at least I chose the RIGHT one out of all the crappy defenses!)

If my math is correct, I think I just lost what has to be the closest game of the season. :smack:

Well, the bad news is that you did lose. The good news is that it wasn’t the closest loss of the season - is currently 111.80 - 108.54, subject to scoring revisions. The worst news is that the difference would have been more than covered by Brad Johnson :smack:

I was rooting for you, PHW. I wanted Chitwood to taste some loss.

We’ve got 4 of the playoff spots locked up. Last 2 are open.

If Isotopes and/or Kiros can win this week, they’re in. Kiros clearly has the easier task vs Og as compared to Isotopes vs Taz. I’m rooting for Isotopes, though, to break Taz’s little streak. I was hoping to get a chance to do it myself, but the schedule didn’t work out that way. I think I could’ve beat him this week.

The winner of Bush/Jesters has a chance if either of those teams loses, it’ll come down to points because a 6-7 record would get in. If Isotopes loses, Bush would have to win and make up a 57 point gap. Jesters would have to make up about 90. Only a 7 point smaller gap if Kiros loses. Unlikely, but possible.

It’s too bad, last week it looked liked we could’ve had some closer races for the last slots.

At least I get to face off with Gridbirds to determine who gets the third seed. He’s going to find out who’s daddy.

Interesting stat: Of the top 500 public fantasy teams on yahoo, 478 (95.6%) have LaDainian Tomlinson. So, if you don’t have Tomlinson, your chances of having a really great team are pretty slim.

Of course, I blame my lack of an undefeated season on him. Not that he took part in all of my losses, but… um… EVERYTHING IS HIS FAULT!!!

That is interesting. Similar to owning Peyton Manning back in 2004 I’d imagine. Is there any way to level the playing field, I wonder?

The appeal of fantasy takes a hit when it all boils down to a single player.

Short of having LDT kneecapped in the real world, I don’t see how that could be done.

Giants fans, I just guaranteed a big day for Eli Manning. I’ve benched him. Last week, I guaranteed a big day for Brandon Jacobs by choosing Reggie Bush, so we have precedence. Look out Cowgirls, Eli is going to go all Romo on your asses!

You know what you must do.

Is it against the rules to post Tonya Harding’s phone number?

I can thing of many ways to do it, though not all are (easily) supported by yahoo.

The most effective would be instituting a scoring cap. No player can score more than x points in any given week, and any excesses would be manually trimmed by the commish. (While possible, it would be a huge PITA.)

Another thought would be a sliding scale for points. Touchdowns could start at 6 points, and each additional one would be worth one less point. So a four touchdown game would net 18 points instead of 24. This is completely unsupported, so it would have to be done manually. And it would be a way bigger PITA than a straight cap. Maybe if yahoo started getting emails requesting such a feature they’d add it.

The easiest to implement would be to assign negative bonuses to the “one time only” benchmarks. That would dampen the “monster game” effect. Of course it would greatly benefit people who came just shy of the benchmark, but for down 'n dirty it can’t be beat. (eg: -5 points for rushing for 200 yards.)

One possibility might be a forced benching for being too good. If a player leads the league in scoring for two or three weeks in a row, he has to sit a week. Or maybe just a point total; score x points in any span of y weeks and he has to sit a week.

These are just off the top of my head. Surely it isn’t an exhaustive list…
