Whyever not? Are they afraid Britney might be a bad influence on her younger sister? Might encourage her to get wild and funky and have sixteen-year old sex?
Good thinkin’, keeping her away from such a bad influence.

I heard (on the radio, so I don’t know how reliable it is) that Spears and her boyfriend were living together, with her parent’s permission. So, really, what does her being in before her curfew have to do with it?
I have seen about 10 minutes of her show, and it seems to me that Jamie Lynn’s about as sharp as a sack full of wet mice. I hope that Jamie Lynn does the smart thing and put’s the kid up for adoption.
Now, the larger implications of this: How many girls are going to find out about this and think that it’s okay to be a teenage mother?
According to the Today show, the book has been put on hold. Can’t imagine why. At this point, I’d buy it to find out what kind of “advice” was in it.
Well, about the only non-stupid/psycho thing Britney’s ever done is to be estranged from her mother. Maybe Jamie Lynn’s gotten hip to the scene and this is her way of telling her mom “No more Zoey money for you, bitch!”
Quick question-- is the boyfriend in legal trouble? I mean he’s 19 to her 16.
depends on the answer to my question - seems clear she was 16 when baby conceived (her b’day is in April according to IMDB), 16 is the age of consent in some places, 17 in others.
:Sigh:
When I heard about this on the radio this morning, I had a dreary vision of being inundated with “reports” about teenage pregnancy, all leading with
“The announcement of 16 year-old “Zoey 101” star Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy has reignated the national debate over teenage pregnancy…”
I’m bored with the “debate” already. Can we just consider it done?
But Jamie is bucking the trend.
Says who?
Ah, the difference a year makes. In 2006, teen pregnancy rates went up for the first time in 14 years. Let’s hear it for abstinence education! Ironic wOOt.
According to my quick google search, it seems that the age of consent in Louisiana is 17.
Whoopsies.
I have to wonder if maybe she doesn’t really want to be a star with all the crap that comes with it (ala Britney) and this is her way of getting out of it?
Indeed. Although to prosecute, they’d have to be able to show that at no time during the conception period did she travel to a neighboring state w/a lower consent age. Of course, then, I believe they’d run into trouble w/the federal “Mann Act” (Is that still on the books? you know, the one where traveling w/an unmarried underage female across state lines for immoral purposes is a no-no).
and, of course, he’d have to then be a RSO. Makes the whole “gravy train ended” thing to be the minor point in this, eh?
It’s worse than that. Jamie and Lynn are her parents’ names. No kidding.
This is a lot of crap.
They railroaded that black student in Georgia for getting a blowjob at a party- but an underage TV actress gets impregnated by a 19 year old and he gets to walk the street?
Where are the lawyers on this?
w/a/d/r to your knee and all, but the news about her pregnancy just broke late yesterday, you really need to give the authorities a moment on this, then bitch about them not acting.
… And the “debate” begins.

A brief hijack, if I may:
When the teen birth rates were falling, and Abstinence and Birth Control supporters were each taking credit for it, a third possibility appeared. According to one study, males aged 15-20 had lower sperm counts than males over 30, which was a particularly depressing prosepect.
As far as Miss Spears goes, I heard this morning that she made a statement telling her fans not to emulate her, but to learn from her mistake.
How delightful. They should frame that quote and put it on the cover of the child’s photo album.
