You know, I’ve been giving this a little thought while getting ready for work this morning (why focus on important things like the economy or the war, when I can spend my time pondering the great questions of the Spears Regime?) and I think I’ve decided that while I love gossip and everything, it’s really unfortunate that everyone is pinning her as a whore.
If you view her as a child (who shouldn’t be procreating), than surely you can’t justify calling a child a whore. If you view her as a little adult, in control of her own body, who made a really stupid decision-- well then, shouldn’t we respect her decision, as an adult? Her body, her choice and all of that.
On a personal level, part of me respects her a great deal for choosing the much more difficult road for herself. She’s effectively given up her incredibly lucrative career as a child star for a lifetime of hard work and dedication.
I guess what I’m saying is that I just feel all the snarking on a 16 year old who has a really tough road ahead of her isn’t really right. And that’s coming from the gossip-lover of this board.

I didn’t call her a whore – I said she was white trash, by which I mean someone who makes really, really poor decisions, not someone without morals. I don’t have a problem with her having sex – her getting pregnant, however, shows a basic inability to think about the long-term implications of one’s actions.
Internet says she is keeping the kid. Another kid raising a kid.
I guess either she or her sister will come out with a cover of Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach” in the near future.

I’m sure she’ll still make lots of bucks doing what she did before - that is, being Britney’s sister. and as for hard work…here’s betting she hires a nanny and a maid to ease that problem.

I’m one of those rare individuals who believes that puberty is nature’s way of telling you it’s time to have sex. Certainly girls reach sexual maturity far more quickly than they reach mental maturity (boys too for that matter) but I am not at all suprised when teenagers have sex. About half do it before leaving high school.(PFD)
This isn’t weird or strange nor does it make a girl a whore. It makes her pretty much normal. Well, not the having a baby at 17 part. Most girls don’t-- as the other PDF I linked showed.
The AP wire story goes on to say how surprised both JL and her boyfriend were to find out she was pregnant. Um-- why? That’s what happens when you have unprotected sex. Unless there is something wrong with one of you. If you have unprotect sex for 6 months and don’t get pregnant your doctor usually sends you to a specialist.
She didn’t make money “being Britney’s sister” and if that’s your contention, I’d like to see you back up that claim. She was (well, for now IS) an incredibly popular star on Nickolodeon in her own right- think along the lines of Hannah Montana for Disney.
And the girl is moving back to Louisiana to raise her child, I’m not sure what else you want. Believe it or not, both Jamie Lynn and their extended family always seemed like perfectly nice, reasonable people. So, she got pregnant. Lots of 16 year olds get pregnant and not all of them are “ghetto” or “white trash.” I had a few perfectly normal, white bread, waspy friends who got knocked up in high school and it was hardly due to a trashy up bringing (obviously, it was due to a mistake, but each of them has gone on to raise their child in the most responsible and mature manner possible).
I also think it is unfair to assume she had unprotected sex. Of the three friends I knew in high school who got knocked up, each of them was on the pill or using condoms/ spermicide. The fact is, them kids are fertile lil’ sumsabitches.

Ugh, I am going to regret responding to this part but someone has to say it. Jamie Lynn can’t even shine Hannah Montana’s shoes. It would be closer to compare her to some of the High School Musical stars. Popular and reasonably successful one-trick ponies who have yet to fully break out. Of course, some of them are on their way but Jamie Lynn does not have video games and she isn’t selling out concerts.
I always thought it was amusing that New Jersey has a lower age of consent than Louisiana (ok its only one year but that one year gets the Baby Daddy off the hook in this situation).

And even then, she’s really not as popular as the High School Musical kids. Zac Efron is on. . .everything and has a very lucrative movie career going for him, outside of Disney. I suppose she’s a poor man’s Disney-star, what with being on Nickolodeon and all. The fact is, though, that her show is really popular with her target demographic and she’s made herself a nice chunk of change with that.
Maybe, maybe not. It’s a Teen Nick show, not Disney, so they’d be a little more flexible. They’ve been dancing around the whole Zoey & Chase romance-masquerading-as-friendship for a while now - this could be an impetus to move that into straight romance. Or maybe she’ll “accidently” spend the night with the “hated” Logan.

ETA after reading above - yeah, Jamie Lynn isn’t in the same ballpark as Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana). She’s probably going to have more money than dad Billy Ray before her 16th birthday. I bet she’ll even give the Olsen twins a run for their money.
As stupid as I find Disney’s puritanical policies, it is also damned amusing at how quickly they will replace you when you screw up.

I think the closest thing Nickelodeon has to Hannah Montana in terms of fame, marketability, and name recognition is SpongeBob Squarepants.
Forgive me for being the voice of reason, but I can’t see where comparisons with Britney are warranted, except that they are sisters.
Britney is a record-setter - a horrific parent and a woman addicted to everything from booze to sex to attention. Jamie Lynn so far is pregnant, and has displayed none of these other pathologies.
None of this is intended as any kind of defense of Jamie Lynn, who screwed up by all accounts. But saying Britney is the “more responsible sister” is a breathtaking claim to make in the face of plenty of contrary evidence.
