Well, I don’t care because I believe that it is not the public’s business. So, I can’t separate them.
I’m sure you could say that about thousands of candidates who have eventually gone on to win offices over the course of our history.
In the 1890s, the Republican Party didn’t want Theodore Roosevelt anywhere near local and state government, so they made him vice president. He became one of the most effective presidents in history.
Look, just face it, NY conservatives: Anthony Weiner’s penis alone is a better man than you.
Hey, he’s a liberal Dem, right? Extraneous as well, by his own actions. OK, opportunity knocks. Time to steal a couple pounds of non-partisan credibility.
I renounce, denounce and condemn him in no uncertain terms, he is a blot on our civic virtue, a blackguard, a scoundrel, and a despoiler of chat rooms. Let his name be removed from all the monuments, all the pylons and all the pyramids. We cast him into the outer beigeness. Fuck him and the horse upon in which he rode. He sucks!
There.
Actually, a lot of the people that I talked to today either thought that he should stay in the race, or else didn’t care.
Interesting, however, that didn’t seem to translate into any actual support. I didn’t talk to a single person who was definitely going to vote for him.
Kobal: Sure, you can say “if he’ll lie about one thing, he’ll lie about anything !”… but that’s just silly thinking and shoddy character assessment. Nobody’s a saint, much less politicians. If I lie a hell of a lot to my parents about my grades, does it mean I’ll cheat on my girlfriend ? If I cheat on my girlfriend, does it mean I’m a tax evader ? Of course not. All those things are unrelated. Compartmentalized (is that a word in English ?)
Respectfully, I couldn’t disagree more. I do believe that integrity is a thing, and I would expect a significant positive correlation between people who significantly cheat on their taxes and their spouses. I guess I suspect a pattern of making exceptions for self to justify doing what you want at other people’s expense because, well, they really wanted to!
Since there appear to be NY conservatives on this board, and even in this thread, this is too close to an attack on other posters.
Knock it off.

Why are people like Weiner and San Diego mayor Finler not getting it? They are unemployable in the civilian sector due to the liability they bring with their harassment history and practices. Why should the public support them and put them in a position of power? It’s not even a close call IMHO.
They’re slightly different situations. Weiner doesn’t have anything to lose and won’t believe he’s seen as unfit for office until he loses an election. Filner just took office and he’s trying to stay there. If he were campaigning he would probably have been forced to drop out. I don’t know how long he can last at this point.
A helpful guide: Should You Send a Lady a Dick Pic? A Guide for Men.
No.
I’m trying to figure out why he was caught.
He was meeting his pic recipient presumably on some web/chat site. Presumably they chat and get the juices flowing and it comes time to send a pic. Nothing new here, except WHY would he reveal his true identity? He could have a totally made up profile, fake face pic, and THEN send his real junk. From a secret, dedicated cell phone. No one would ever know. Even if someone suspected it was really his junk, it would have been easy to deny.
This is so basic, I’m beginning to think he wanted to get caught. Keeps the name “Weiner” blazed in your mind.
Ok, I see now he was posting links from his twitter account.
My point still stands then: you can send all kinds of pervy pics out anonymously. The fact that he
did it while being identified tells me he knew he’d get caught. Or he’s really stupid.
New Polls Show Weiner’s Latest Idiocy Is Too Much for New York City Voters
Yep. That’s the one I worked on. Here’s a direct link to the full results.

With this most recent scandal, Weiner’s just shown his naked lust for power (among other things). This guy is completely without shame or humility. Clearly he has impulse control and thrill-seeking issues… if this was worth resigning over when he was in Congress, surely the same should apply when running for an office that he doesn’t even hold yet!
I am certain there are better Democratic candidates to choose from.
I believe the “redemption narrative” has more appeal to Southern evangelical voters. They love the whole storyline of the sinner who confesses and presents himself as a changed person. It fits nicely into the worldview of born-again Christians who describe themselves as “saved.”
Weiner may have been emboldened by seeing Sanford and Vitter recover from their scandals. If so, I think he miscalculated. I don’t see the “changed man” ploy working as well with New Yorkers.
Especially since there hasn’t been any change.
I’m still waiting for Carlos Danger to join the board.
“Hello, my name is Carlos Danger! You murdered my penis. Prepare to die.”
