I want to take a moment to repeat that I denounce, renounce and condemn Mr. Wiener’s unacceptable and repulsive behavior. Being a lefty, I am pleased to point out that my denunciation, renouncement and condemnation renders me forever immune to any charge of partisan bias or liberal hypocrisy.
God bless The New Yorker: http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/0c9109c71ea0524d9fe840f91fabd67bb94a26a9/r=537&c=0-0-534-712/local/-/media/USATODAY/test/2013/07/26/1374851470000-New-Yorker-cover-1307261129_3_4.PNG
I find this to be a remarkably silly question.
Nor does he expose himself to possible extortion and/or blackmail to prevent his obesity from being made public.
In Weiner’s case, again. And again.
I could give a flip about Weiner’s sexting, so long as it’s all consensual, and apparently, it is. I vote for politicians on the basis of policy, not their sex lives. If he does nonconsensual stuff, then that’s a different matter.
Ditto.
Democrats carrying less ‘baggage’. Yes?
Dude is lazy. I’m sure he has a full itinerary, but can’t he find some time to have a real sex scandal? One that actually involves sex? This is something high school kids and fratboys do. Apply yourself, Weiner.
Or you could say he’s heroically defending his marriage vows by only using his impulses to sext. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
I believe prostitution and cocaine should both be legal … but neither GWB nor Spitzer agrees with me on those points; that’s my issue.
There are like five Democrats in the race, at least two of whom are better than Anthony Weiner. He’s not the Democratic candidate, he’s a Democratic candidate, which just means he got enough petitions signed. The primary is six weeks away.
Weiner’s campaign manager just quit. I’m sure he took that news well.
I have to say it’s the “reincidence after this already burned him once” part that bothers me more. Was perfectly willing to accommodate him in a ‘dust yourself off, say “yup, I really screwed up” and get back on your feet’ narrative but he goes ahead and blows it. This new ridiculousness speaks of a lack of self discipline and yes, an apparent craving to be found out and punished.
And really, “Carlos Danger”?
I’m not from New York, so I don’t have a dog in this race. And, for the most part, I agree with Anthony Weiner’s politics. Sexting and dick pics don’t really bother me, and lying about it…well, that’s to be expected. But, reading the transcripts…
…he really, really sucks at sexting. I mean, it’s not hot, it’s not well-written; it’s just uncomfortable, forced, and exploitative. That suckiness I could never forgive.
That would make him overqualified to be Mayor of NYC.
It looks like Weiner will not only wreck his comeback. He’s hurting Eliot Spitzer too. It’s a shame because I don’t see Spitzer the same way. Weiner was out on the Internet blatantly sexting. Spitzer was simply contracting with a high class madam. A private business transaction between consenting adults. He wasn’t out cruising for hookers on street corners.
I thought Spitzer was making a comeback the right way by starting with a minor position as controller for NY city. A big comedown for a former governor but it was a smart choice to get back in politics.
Weiner has managed to dirty the water for both of them. Even though there’s no indication at all that Spitzer has done anything wrong since his scandal.
NY daily news reports that in the public’s mind these two are linked at the hip.
I know New York isn’t exactly Boca, but please.
Absolutely nothing in the article backs that up. It is pure speculatation with no facts.
Uh, no. Spitzer was the Attorney General, so it’s kind of a big deal if he’s breaking the law that way. Or if he’s prosecuting people for prostitution on the job and having sex with prostitutes off the job (which he was doing). I respect the fact that he stayed away from the spotlight for longer and that he’s trying to come back in a lower-profile position that he can at least argue he’s really qualified for, but let’s not go crazy.
Does it even matter that the alternative is Quinn? Who by most accounts is a fairly unremarkable politician. Her only claim to fame seems to be that she is the first female or openly gay speaker of the city council. There’s nothing to indicate she would do a good job, of course there’s nothing to indicate she will do a bad job either.
Quinn isn’t the only alternative.
She has her own legal trouble now, looks like they deserve eachother.
In the most recent poll from Quinnipiac, Weiner is now in fourth place, at 16 percent.
Same poll before the scandal? 26 percent, and first place.
Candid interview with Weiner. I’m glad that this isn’t a race that I’m invested in. The other candidate isn’t exactly experienced or knowledgeable. Weiner still has 44 days to shift the focus back on issues.
I wouldn’t count him out yet. Voters like straight talk. I screwed up. Lets talk the issues. I’m just watching the trainwreck from a neutral distance. So far it’s been interesting.

There are four other candidates. Quinn, the city council speaker who is generally seen as Bloomberg’s protege; DiBlasio, the public advocate; Thompson, who was the city comptroller and ran unsuccessfully in 2009; Weiner; and Liu, the current comptroller who has been dealing with ethics investigations since he took office. (See, we could do worse than Weiner.) And that’s just among the Democrats.
