AnthroCon 2009 - A Murry, Purry, Furry MMP!

Sounds rather like a game we played last weekend on the Fourth - Equal parts croquet and Calvinball. The course was full of all sorts of wacky impediments such as tables and chairs, a lean-to shed, and the notorious pressure washer, which loved to trap unsuspecting balls in its coily hose. About the only available hazard in that yard that wasn’t used were the goats. (Seriously - my friends have two goats, and they were occupied with a pile of delicious watermelon rinds.)

The first round was won by someone who came from (far!) behind, having spent quite a while trapped behind a rake, but managed to attain double-poison and killed off every other ball. The second round was even less orderly and had an added moving hazard - dogs who saw colorful balls rolling around the yard and thought “PLAY!” and chased and ran off with the croquet balls. Once you got the dog to put the ball down, you played it where it lies. Mainly because it was now wet with slobber and you didn’t want to touch it.

Needless to say, between the crazy rules of the game and that we were all Rennies, there was a goodly amount of alcohol consumed, which really didn’t help the game make any more sense.

Well, today was truly a Monday. Glad to be home…

Moonie, I’m gonna have to read your OP in stages - I had a rough night and anything more than a few paragraphs yanks down the eyelids.

Congrats, Spaz!!

**Bobbio **- my one and only bambilance ride was 10 years ago - it was a gallbladder attack that we at first thought was a heart attack. Anyway, the poor paramedic tried FOUR TIMES to set an IV before they finally pulled over and let another one finally get me hooked up. Yeah, I have crappy veins. So anyway, I’m impressed you could do one on the run.

Chickie in the rotisserie for supper, with corn on the cob and some green veggie matter. SIL is working, so there’ll be 3 of us for supper. Off to toss the bird into the appliance. Yum!!

The other time I tried was on a cardiac arrest, and one of the other guys in my fire department drove because of extreme emergency. He beat the hell out of us in back, and that made it worse than usual. That, and some other things I won’t discuss, got me very rattled. I don’t like getting rattled.

Unfortunately, that patient died, but in all honesty, she died before she was ever loaded into the truck.

McKay’s lied. I bought what they said was local corn. Maybe it was local, but it was also old-tasting. Ugh. I’ll pay the extra for the Amish corn.

The chickie was pretty good, and we finished off the cuke salad and snarfed down some 'maters. My nephew ate the entire crop of cherry 'maters.

They’re going fishing tomorrow. I’m going to work. Sucks to be me. :frowning:

Started to post around 2 hours ago, then fell asleep for an hour and woke up completely disoriented. Slowly found my way back to Monday night.

Sounds like a fun game, taxi. Seems like I’ve heard of it before (probably here on the Dope).

Allergies seem to be acting up again. Boo.

Still tired, so going back to sleep, then up early to get bunches of stuff done at work. Woo hoo.

Happy Monday!

GT

Boo for allergies.

Wow, that was quite an OP, Alistair. I haven’t had a chance to go through the entire thing yet.

Congrats** Spaz! **

It was definitely Monday today. I found out that a report I ran is missing some data, so now I need to go back and basically fix four weeks. It’s my fault, I should have caught it. I feel badly.

In other news, I was referred to the selecting official for that promotion I talked about. Frankly, I’m shocked I even made it that far. I’m sure there are far more qualified people than me for the job, and it wouldn’t break my heart if I don’t get the job. I guess we’ll see what shakes out.

One day down; three to go. I’ll have to pack Sunday afternoon for my trip to San Antonio, because the shuttle van is picking me up at 3:55 am. Bleh, that’s way early!

I guess I should get going on dinner.

Owowowowow.

A concrete patio stone fell over onto my foot earlier this evening. Stupid me was wearing sandals, so there wasn’t anything to cushion the blow. Of course, the alternative was taking a piece of aluminum flashing to the face… so I guess I picked the lesser of two evils.

Owowowowowow.

Foot is being elevated and iced. I don’t think I broke anything, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have a really colourful bruise come morning and it may be a few days before I can easily walk again.

Ow.

Taters, you might be pleasantly surprised at how this all works out. I’ve never gotten a job I really really really wanted… somehow, I’d always get a case of nerves and blow the interview. On the other hand, I’ve always been able to land the jobs I’m mostly lukewarm about because I wasn’t as invested in the outcome - not as stressed = perfect interview.

Owie Mahna! Hope your foot doesn’t turn too purple and hurt too much.

I’m lukewarm about the job because I honestly feel there are people more qualified for me and that would be better for the office and the command. The interview will be with a panel. I’m not nervous. I plan to honestly state my abilities and let the chips fall where they may. I’ve been honest about my abilities from the get-go, so it’s not like the selecting official will be surprised.

Honestly, the job is hard and HUGE. It’ll require a lot more of my time and I’m not sure the small pay increase is worth it. On the other hand, I’ll have supervisory skills under my belt and I guess that would look good. I would have to really spend a lot of time educating myself on the in and outs of the job, not to mention spending a lot more time in meetings. I like to leave my work at work, but in this position, that won’t always be possible.

I don’t know when I’ll learn of the outcome. I was surprised that they went through the resumes that fast and had them to the selecting official.

Guess I’ll cruise the news sites now.

I know a bit more about Furries, thanks Moonie!

Congrats, Spaz!

: waves at everybody else :

Loved your OPs, Moonie - your representation of your fursona is so cute! I spent those same few days at Anime Expo, and came back with lots of yaoi manga and doujinshi, a free Naruto poster from the video game booth in the dealers’ room, a couple of fanart prints I bought at the Artists’ Alley, a free video game which I suspect will get me arrested if I ever load it onto my computer, judging by the underage anime characters on the cover*, lots of photos, and a case of the flu.

Congrats Spaz!

Today was my first day back at work after the week I spent with the AX flu. My voice sounds like I’ve been smoking cigars nonstop for the past 72 hours. Also my muscles still hurt. I just finished a 5-day dose of azithromycin (sp?) and need a few more days to get my strength up. However, over the course of the days I spent sick at home, I finished and uploaded my first AMV on YouTube! I have only 6 views so far, but hope there will be more before they force me to take it down or mute the sound (the song I used is new and somewhat popular.)

*helpfully labeled “All characters depicted here are aged 18 years and older.”

Cool OP, Moonsong. I only knew vaguely what being a Furry entailed up until now.

Congrats Spats!!

Hope your foot is okay, Muppet.

And hugs and kisses all around. I’m off to Thailand and a six-week-long vacation starting tomorrow! The timing couldn’t be better - monsoon has just hit Seoul, blech.

Blurf, y’all.

How fortunate for me. Last night at the fire department meeting, we were handed 25% off coupons for Hooter’s. About 90% of the time VWife and I go to that establishment, she’s the one leading the way. Weeeeeellllll, the new Harry Potter movie opens this week, too, so we’re gonna have an extremely rare day/evening/night out this weekend.

In other mundane news, my mortgage holder has convinced me to refinance yet again to drop my interest rate not quite a point and a half.

Morning all. I have a serious case of the blaaaaaaahs this morning. No particular reason.

Tupug

So much for the Hooters/Harry Potter date with the wife. I just found out today that I have to go to Boston Sunday on business.

Nice advasnce notice, dude…

morning all, caffeination in progress, at work. {{{{{{{Muppet}}}}}}; I hope your foot is feeling better today although it will probably be black and blue all over. Owie is right.

Sorry about your unexpected travel, BBBBobbio - do ya want me to fill you in on the HP movie? Yay for Haze’s 6-week vacation, which I wish I only had a week of! LOL Seriously though, Haze, have a great time!!!

I need more caffeine … LOL

Blurf.

Foot Update: It’s not black and blue… yet. That just means the bruise hasn’t reached the surface, though. I did wrap it in a tensor bandage to stabilize it a bit, and am taking an anti-inflammatory to keep the swelling under control (since I can’t ice at work without looking like a ginormous dork).

Depending on how it feels tonight, I might call Mumsy Dearest or MIL to get their input on whether or not it needs professional attention (they’re a doc and a nurse, respectively)

Enjoy your trip, Haze! I’m dying of jealousy. We expect a full MMP detailing your adventures as soon as you’re back, young lady.

Taters, I’ll wish you good luck anyways.

Hugs and kisses and yays and boos as appropriate for the rest of you lot.

Morning!

Did we ever get all the pics from Haze’s last trip? Have a wonderful time!

Owie, Muppet!

Bahston? Well, I hope some fun can be had on your bidness trip, VBob.

I suddenly have a lot on my plate here at work. Feast or famine, I tell ya. <blurf>

{{{Muppet}}}

I’m really jealous of your 6-week vacation, Haze!

I need a mini-rant before I reply to an email from my mother. OK, so this is really really small beans compared to some family issues here. But it irks me. I emailed Mom yesterday and said specifically, “I’ve updated my blog with the rest of our weekend stories. Check that out so I don’t have to retype about what we did.” So today I get an email saying “So what did you do for the rest of the weekend?” ARGH! This is why I have a blog. So I don’t have to tell you and five other people exactly the same thing!

One of my coworkers, who’s Chinese, sent her 2 1/2 year old with her mother (i.e. the kid’s grandmother) to China for 3 months. I can’t imagine sending my kid away for that long! At that age especially. Certainly her family, her choice, but how hard does it have to be to watch your little toddler fly away?

Well, I’m saddled with my boss’s responsibilities as well as my own for the next two week, while he’s on vacation (and then I go on vacation and our VP will have to take over!)
So I’s rather busy. Again. Or still…

Let’s see… Moonie – that was fascinating!

Muppet: Ouch!! Oh, and…

Where I’m looking from, **both **of you are young ladies…

What, 5 full days of advance notice before a trip that keeps you in the same country? And you’re complaining?? :stuck_out_tongue:

::Jealousy:: Both on the six weeks’ vacation bit, and on the Thailand bit. I want to go there someday! (and before you ask, I’ve actually been to S. Korea briefly.)

Unless he’s gay, I’d say the working assumption should be that he is hitting on you
Good luck…

I didn’t miss it, but I haven’t been posting since. So I’ll say it now – Many Congratulations on being thesisized, Spaz!!*

  • Is too a word!!
