For those who have somehow missed this current viral video, it begins with a very unfunny story about an attempted rape in the housing projects of Huntsville, Alabama, that was thwarted by the would-have-been-victim fighting him off and by her brother coming to her rescue. The rapist fled the scene, leaving behind some evidence that hopefully will be used to apprehend him.
Those not familiar may wonder what I did when I first saw the first-part of the video: what in hell is funny about this story? And then the answer presents itself-Antoine Dodson, the victim’s brother.
Literally within minutes of the broadcast Antoine Dodson is a youtube sensation and literally overnight he’s had millions of views. Then he gets several remixes, the best one by the Autotune the News brothers-
He’s also beenreinterviewed sincehe became famous. He seems to have a great sense of humor about it.
So, some black people have written editorials claiming he’s a disgrace which I certainly can’t see; he’s an obvious character but he also helped save his sister from a rape. Others have written editorials defending him (like he needs it). The fact he’s funny as hell when pissed probably will do more to nab the assailant (if he gets nabbed) than the Huntsville Police Department would do in a month of Sundays. I’d definitely trade the 500 pound Alabama women in the Kiss Mah Gritz T shirts who they pick to describe the tornado for him. I just hope there’s some way he can use his fame- which of course is fleeting (“Leave Britney alone!!!”) to get some cash- T-shirts or personal appearances or something.
No real point to the thread, but just curious what others think about the video and about the “mega famous overnight” stardom that comes with viral video. (I’m surprised there hasn’t been a major movie yet in which the star is an unintentional viral video superstar.)

I’m irked at the T-shirts and coffee cups and other merchandise being sold on YouTube though. Antoine should be the only one profiting from that; ‘cause they rapin’ everybody out here’ is his intellectual property.

I’m loving this kid. I haven’t clicked on the links in this thread, but I hope one of them is the auto tuned version because it is absolute genius.
I know a ton of black people and they all find this funny, if not kinda cool. I have no idea why ‘black media’ likes to speak for everyone and cry ‘disgrace to the race’ all the damn time, but I wish they would give it a break. There are weirdos of every stripe, and this particular kid is actually, like I said, kind of cool.
Let me check these links for the auto tuned version, because if it isn’t here, I will find it and link it. The kids personality really shines when he gets his auto tune on.

Hey, Sampiro, forget about that. The joke is clearly on the rapist, although I bet many mistakenly believe the joke is on Antoine. I don’t know anyone who thinks the joke is rape.

And that’s also from Huntsville, AL. I haven’t been there in a long time but I may have to go take a visit. (Those who only know of it through Space Camp and “Little Berchtesgaden” probably won’t be surprised to learn it’s a pretty close drive to some gen-u-ine mountaintop dwellin’ hillbillies.)
Since I’m guessing that Antoine is as gay as he is black, I can definitely attest I’m proud to share that club with him. To me it keeps boiling down to “say what you like about him, he helped chase off a rapist”.
