Antoine Dodson: Hide Your Kids/Hide Your Wife/ Husband Too cause They Raping Everybody Out Here" Guy

Keep raping that strawman.

What’s everyone so upset about? I’m with you now. Rape can be damn funny! No question.

If you didn’t like my jokes, let’s hear some of yours. I’m sure you can be funnier than me.

Go ahead. Let’s have your best rape joke.

Scarecrow, I think I’m going to rape you most of all…

lol mockery much.

I think I’ve seen that comic…

Keep raping that chicken.

You can throw a tantrum all you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that rape has nothing to do with why that video is funny.

If you think rape is funny, you are doing it wrong.

The funniest thing about this article is that people are actually believing this story, and don’t think it’s something they thought up over a shared crack-pipe.

What dumb, possible-muthafucking rapist would climb on a bin in full view of the street, to enter a random home in the muthafuckin’ projects, armed with no weapon except the one he seemed to have kept in his pants?

Antoine, you carry on milking it, homeboy, but you ain’t all that!

Well, we couldn’t hardly be less funny than you, could we?

Anyway, I was interested in discussing the subject with you, but apparently you don’t have any articulatable ideas on the subject, and were only interested in the topic because it gave you the opportunity to act as a moral scold. Too bad - there could have been a very valuable conversation happening in here.

We’re not talking about The Italian Job here. Many would-be rapists and/or criminals of other types are dumb as shit. The list of crimes that sound like this that one would have to be a moron to attempt is long indeed.

All new meaning to “crying fowl”.

Or crazy, or drunk/drugged off their ass, or it was personal against that woman.

Almost invariably the worst moments of my life have the funniest stories/weirdest characters/most absurd events/etc… I don’t know if it’s because they attract them somehow or that I look for them as a coping device, but either way it’s there. (In person I’m probably asked to tell the story of my mother’s funeral more than almost any other.)

Perhaps he was that drunk/drugged up that all he really wanted to do was get in bed and go to sleep?

Ah now, let’s not get our feelings hurt.

I admit to a certain amount of sarcasm of in this thread, but the subject is a rather sore one with me. But let’s think about this. While there are a few women who make rape jokes, (Wanda Sykes comes to mind) the genre seems to lend itself more to comedy tailored to male tastes, stuff like Family Guy etc.

Now, I happen to like Family Guy, but on the whole the only way comedy depending on shock value can keep being funny is to keep topping itself. With guys, joking about rape is not a problem. Guys don’t really have to fear rape. Women do. And there’s a point where shock jokes about rape stop being funny, and start being uncomfortable.

When that line is crossed, and just where that line is is confusing enough, if a woman objects, she is often accused of not having a sense of humor, not being able to take a joke, or indeed, of “being a moral scold”.

It is a question of degree. Is it wrong to make rape jokes? No. Is it wrong to object to them? No. Is it wrong to insist on telling rape jokes to someone who is offended by them? Yes, definitely. It’s also wrong to insist that there’s something wrong with someone who doesn’t find rape jokes funny.

You can tell rape jokes. You can tell racist jokes. You can tell homophobic jokes.

But if that’s the main source of your humor, folks will start to wonder about you.
By the way, that video that everyone’s cracking up over? Maybe it is more about the heroics of the brother of the intended victim, and the stupidity of the rapist.

It also draws its humor from racial stereotypes.

But that’s another discussion.

Lighten up, Francine.

If someone freaks out over any kind of comment or joke that upsets them, maybe the Internet is not for them. Also, if someone feels the need to rebut a throwaway comment with a page or more, maybe forums aren’t for them. I haven’t been here that long, but you really need some thick skin the smarter the forum is. On dumb forums like Yahoo Answers, it’s easier to ignore attacks, but here, it’s much harder…but, they’re also more common.

You’re right, the idea of “rape humor” is a gender politics minefield. The problem here is that this situation has nothing to do with “rape humor.” This joke is not about rape. The source of the humor does not spring from any perceived incongruity in society’s perception of rape. Rape has nothing to do with this situation, except for the incidental fact that this guy got on TV because someone tried to rape his sister.

And some people really don’t have a sense of humor.

Who is this supposed to be addressed at? Me? One of the OPs? Antoine Dodson?

Yes, it does. Gender stereotypes, too. That doesn’t mean its a bad thing. It’s not enough to say it “draws on racial stereotypes.” What does it say about those stereotypes?

Setting aside again the fact that the humor in the Dodson video has nothing to do with rape, where on earth did you get this? “Main source of humor”? Who here has given any kind of indication that that is their “main source of humor”? You haven’t just created a strawman, you’ve created an entire strawfamily. What’s next, “think of the strawchildren!”?

That’s kind of what I thought - that maybe it was personal. That or he thought it was his house, of course. I have a friend who once woke up to a profoundly drunk guy settling in for a long winter’s nap on his couch, and he became belligerent when awakened and required a fistfight. And was evidently very confused and sheepish when he woke up in jail.

Anyway, the point is it would be equally hilarious if they stabbin’ everybody out here, or they slashin’ everybody tires, or they peein’ on everybody dog.

Nah, I think the fact that it is about a topic as ‘solemn’ as rape adds a bit to the humor.

I wasn’t sure if Ivan was serious with his post. I can’t believe he thinks it isn’t possible in the projects for a guy to blatantly climb into a window and try to harm that girl. I could see that happening, and then him going probably 3 or 4 doors down and getting in his own damn bed. You obviously haven’t met more than a few really strange characters in the hood.
