Just had a thought, though. Won’t we need 2 copies of CS:S? One to host as dedicated server and one for you to play with?
When we tried this with regular CS last time I first just hosted a game and played at the same time. This turned out to be inadequate with my (normally blazing fast) cable connection. It became clear that we needed dedicated. IIRC, Sterra ended up just throwing down some cash for one of those rent-a-server dealies. Hence the problems with remote admin etc.

I play UT2004, although IF I can ever get HL2 and CS:S working I will be playing that.

It would be very atypical if this were the case. Most games host a free dedicated server program (generally runs in a console mode, can’t play at all from it) to host servers, with no cd key or anything required … they want people to host servers, the more servers, the more popular, the more people buying… so they don’t penalize them by making them buy an extra copy for it.
How about a NeverWinter Nights guild/server? Not saying that anyone should take the time to build a mod or PW or anything, but I think it would be fun even with a non-original mod.
CS:Source would be very nice; I would also play BF1942, C&C Generals, CivIII, or Starcraft.
Not sure what the status of this is, but if y’all ever get around to setting up some Battlefield 1942/DesertCombat/Vietnam games, lemme know!
I’d be all over a Civ game, and I might be inetrested in learning some FPS games to try this out. Although the copies of Madden 2004 and NCAA 2004 that are gathering dust now say otherwise…
True, but any idea how this works with Steam? You certainly can’t log into your Steam account from multiple places at the same time and “DEDICATED SERVER” is one of the options in the Play Games menu – thats the only way I know to host one.

Is this HLDS_1120 still current? It was released over a year ago… but it seems to be the most recent thing on fileplanet.

I can host a Neverwinter Nights game on my home server. I’ve even written my own mods, and I have a half-finished one based on the SDMB- I posted a thread and people sent me character suggestions.
I can also host or play UT or UT2004, if anyone wants to get started. I don’t have CS:S yet but I do have CS original, if anyone wants to play that.
