The show grew on me, despite the laugh-track. I like how the characters have developed, but I appear to be the lone man out when it comes to Sheldon. He’s over done and his obsessive tirades take up too much screen time. The show seems to be all about him, but I can’t understand how everyone puts up with some of his shit. He doesn’t give enough back to make it worth it.
Giving money to Penny and it being one of his “redeeming qualities that make you not want to kill him” was a start.
Sheldon is the wacky neighbor, except he lives in the SAME APARTMENT! It would be like Kramer living with Jerry, and Jerry putting up with Kramer’s odd habits.
Fans of this show might find this article from Slate interesting. It describes the geek background of Bill Prady, one of the show’s creators, and discusses the idea that Sheldon has Asperger’s syndrome.
Thanks for the heads up. I usually detest when networks shake up the schedule, but they seem to have a legit reason: the Presidential press conference. Anyhoo, I’ve got a backup VCR that tapes the whole night anyway, just for these situations. And if that fails, I can watch it online.
Ok, that wasn’t Rock Band themed exactly, but there was a bit of Rock Band 2 in it, and that was one of the best episodes yet. After Penny asked Leonard to lick the salt off her neck, then take a shot, then suck the lime, and then the lime was in her mouth, I had to say out loud “No fucking way!” That was kinda hot…
Howard was showing a little bit of skill on the drums, he twirled the stick at one point, I can’t do that. The show was using the actual Rock Band 2 instruments and sounds, love the authenticity.
I had to answer the phone when Sheldon and Leonard’s Mom (the great Katherine Baranski) were flirting. Somebody tell me how they avoided getting it on.
Avoided? I’m quite sure that if you asked the characters that, they both would be shocked and horrified that someone thought they were thinking of sex. Sheldon just wanted to play Rock Band
And for a smart guy, Leonard really is dumb. Maybe Sheldon and his mother are right about him. I sure as hell would have kept my mouth shut…
Gawd, if only Leonard had kept his mouth shut!
His mom basically just got Penny to talk about her childhood while making “small talk” while walking up the stairs.
The scene in the cafeteria - where Wolo was calling Leonard Jar-Jar, and then the mom spoke of their homosexual relationship - was IMO the funniest scene in this show yet.
Leonard’s mother learned Penny was an actress. So, being a psychiatrist, she latched onto the fact that many actresses feel the need for outside validation and started quizzing Penny on her relationship with her mother and father. By the time Penny reached the top of the stairs she was bawling about her father not paying attention to her any more when she reached puberty.
