Any love for I Love You to Death?

Several Days Later…

just watched it. Although my wife instantly knew the “Can you imagine” reference, I swear I never noticed it before. But I feel slightly vindicated- Nadja says it “only” three times, twice near the beginning and once near the end.

What a great picture. This time around, William Hurt stood out for me.

.

A line I’ve used from it several times is “It’s alright… just don’t shoota me in the head no more”.

I loved the scene where his mother visits him in the hospital and beats the hell out of him for making his wife have to try and kill him.

No idea if the real couple (Tony and Frances Toto) are still together but they were at the time of the movie. He sold their house and business to pay her bail and defense- she got 4 years for attempted murder- and when she was released she moved home with him. They wrote the book and sold the film rights in part to pay legal bills.

Cite? I ask because I’ve never been able to find in-depth (and up to date) info on the real story. I’m also very curious to see what the principals look like.

.

I can’t find any pics buy you can find articles if you google Frances and Tony Toto.

Joey’s Mom is Miriam Margolyes, and she makes that small part shine. See her interesting resumé at Miriam Margolyes - IMDb.

Too much time on my hands:

  • Another trivial detail that always kills me is when Devo first approaches Marlon and Harlan at the pool table. When Harlan finally, somehow, manages to actually tap the ball with the cue stick, listen to the soundtrack. We can’t see the table, but we hear one, two, three balls drop into the pockets. Cracks me up every time.

  • Last night was the first time I realized that Sgt. Wiley is the same actor who played Dude’s landlord in Big Lebowski.

  • James Gammon (Lt. Larry Schooner), died yesterday at age 70.

Thank you! You are a gentleman as well as a scholar.

Hey.

I am appalled to see, just now, that the film only gets a 6.1/10 rating at the IMDB. It gets a very similar 59% rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

Clearly, the masses have no taste.

Great movie, and an excellent example of the Kevin Kline Mustache Principle.

I like at the end, when Nadja not only bogarts Rosalie’s chocolates, but tells Joey, “But I prefer *hard *candies.”

Also when Devo waxes romantic, and Joey’s response is “OK, clean out the garbage cans - they’re full of maggots.”
