Any other fans of The Grinder?

Definitely one of my wife’s and my favorite comedies these days. Which probably means it will be cancelled shortly!

Far from perfect, but every week there are at least a couple of good laughs. Can imagine others might not find Rob Lowe’s self absorbed character annoying. But I love that he sees himself fit to advise everyone - from the lawyers to his brother’s kids. Pretty impressive cast. Almost all of the characters are drawn in an extremely exaggerated manner, which might not hold up over time, but for the time being I’m enjoying it.

We all have different tastes- it was one of two new shows that we watched and vowed never to watch again (the other was Rosewood). Just didn’t like the characters and the pilot was pretty lame, in our opinon.

I just streamed the first 4 or 5 episodes.
I’m not sure about it yet. I’ve definitely had some good laughs. William Devane is hilarious and perfect in his role as the dad who favors Rob Lowe, and doesn’t even realize it. The character of Todd is such a pathetic fool; it’s hard for me to even watch him. Natalie Morales could play Amanda Peet’s sister. I like her character as the straight-man.

It’s OK, but I don’t see it lasting… then again Two Broke Girls continues to get renewed; so what do I know?

I’ve only seen one episode (the Thanksgiving one), but really enjoyed it and will check out the rest. Two of the writers are Sean Clements and Hayes Davenport, who also host the Hollywood Handbook podcast, which has quickly become one of my favorites.

I love this show! In fact, just last night I posted on Facebook that I’m really enjoying it.

Everything about it is deliberate camp, and done so very well. Rob Lowe, Fred Savage, and William DeVane are hitting it out of the park – everyone is getting the tone exactly right, including cameo actors (like Timothy Olyphant and Jason Alexander). It’s very well written/directed.

Ha! This is funny to me; because I STARTED watching the show because I saw that Timothy Olyphant was doing a cameo. I didn’t want to start watching mid season though, so I started from the beginning… and haven’t made why way to the Thanksgiving episode yet (where Timothy Olyphant has role (or at least a cameo)).

I’ve been watching it and really enjoying it. Rob Lowe and Fred Savage are great. I especially love Lowe’s interactions with the kids, and his advice that Savage doesn’t always approve of. The Thanksgiving episode was the best one so far in my opinion. I hadn’t heard of the Hollywood Handbook podcast, I’ll check that out.

Yep. I think it’s brilliant. I generally dislike sitcoms, because they’re lazy and just not funny, but this one hits on all marks.

I watched the first couple of episodes but found Savage’s frantic behavior and whining annoying. I didn’t see why anyone would want to be around him, much less his wife and kids. Has he toned it down any?

I like it. I feel as though I should like it more, but the “acting style” (??) seems to be a bit off. Mostly the scenes between Savage and the Wife. Kind of like everyone is doing a Chandler impression, all the time.

Otherwise I like the characters and the actors. Just wish they would stop…trying so hard? Play it straight? Something like that.

Yeah, I see that, but I lost it yesterday when they were watching the guy through the window, and he said, “Can he see us?” Of course he is totally unrealistic. No firm would retain him. So to have any chance of appreciating him - and much of the show - you just have to acknowledge that it is terribly exaggerated and unrealistic.

I can entirely get that some folk might not appreciate it. I see it was approved for an entire season, but can’t see much to show it has any kind of ratings. I hope I’m wrong, but I bet t doesn’t make it to season 2.

It might not even be able to sustain whatever it has. Maybe it is a one-trick pony that will run out of gas. OTOH, maybe it will grow into something better than it is.

Savage’s facial expressions to Lowe’s craziness are what’s cracking me up more than anything in this show. But you’re right, it does have a Chandler feel to it

Fred Savage’s character reminds me a bit of Frank Grimes (from the seminal Simpsons episode Homer’s Enemy) in his disbelief over how easily everything comes to his brother.

But what if it didn’t?

Whatif? Is that a thing? That should be a thing.

I’ve wondered about this show but haven’t checked it out yet, mostly because I have my hands full keeping up with other TV. But if I have only one new Rob Lowe comedy to put on my list, Moonbeam City (on Comedy Central) is the one I’m sticking to for now.

And that defies any explanation

My family likes it. It has a similar over the top, layered comedy to Community. The interactions in the family and Fred’s straight man to the world part is good. Everyone else gets sucked into the surreal mess of the little world Rob’s character lives in and Fred just stands there in shock and awe. He’s a great stand in for the audience. Love it. He could tone it down a tad, but I think if this show is given a chance, he will settle more into the role.
I just wish they would pronounce Boise correctly. It’s an S not a Z. Bugs the crap out of me. Also annoyed that they purposely took the opening shot of the city from the south east (pointing north west) instead of the classic south west because it makes it looks smaller and hides most of the large buildings. I have no idea why this annoys me except that Boise is a pretty little city and that shot makes it look ugly. It’s a badly composed shot with no art to it.

I love it. Rob Lowe is perfect.

LOL. That was one of my favorite episodes.
