I realize that Smallville has officially ended, but when you own all 10 season on Blu-Ray, it’s never really over! Any other Smallville fans lurking about?
I’m also a huge Supernatural fan, it’s my favorite show that is still on the air and hopefully will be back next year for a Season 9!
I love Supernatural. I know a lot of people think it should’ve ended after season 5, but I’ll take it for as long as they’re giving it.
Smallville, I have a love hate relationship with. I particularly hate the middle seasons, as Lana just became an unbearably annoying character (not that she was ever particularly good on the show). Once she left, things improved drastically. I liked the stuff they did in later years with the Justice Society and such.
I hated Lana so much that I got giddy every time I thought she actually died! I can’t watch most episodes from Seasons 6 and 7 because the whole Lana/Lex thing makes me vomit a little bit inside my mouth…
Seasons 8 thru 10 are the best- No Lana or Lex, yeah!
Chloe was the most interesting character for more than the first half of the series! I got firmly hooked in Season 4 when Lois Lane was introduced…she was the anti-thesis of the sickly-sweet, wounded-bird (that I wanted to stomp to death) Lana Lang…and finally there was woman who had the cojones, smart ass mouth, rockin’ body and everything else to take care of SuperStud Clark Kent…when they finally hooked up, it felt right for the first time…and you just knew that she was enough of a bad girl to teach Clark thing he never dreamed about!
Chloe and Oliver hooking up worked out better than I thought it would when I heard about it before the final season started. I loved Chloe and even though she was the geeky, super-smart chick, she wasn’t hard on the eyes by and means…and she landed the show’s other uber-hunk, very cool.
But the other vital part of Season 8-10 being so great was the addition of Tess Mercer! I still wish that Lex hadn’t killed her in the finale, but she was a great character and Cassidy Freeman did an amazing job playing the role…and she helped up the sex show’s sex appeal another notch or so…
I liked Smallville. I think I’ve seen 90% of the episodes. But I can’t believe it lasted 10 seasons and I don’t think the plot warranted it at all.
The problem was that you knew where Superman started from. You knew where he ended up. So this entire series was this section in the middle. But since the producers didn’t want to stray very far from canon, you already had that ending and it was just marking time filling in pieces until we got there. Which, don’t get me wrong, can be an interesting journey. But it didn’t always know what journey it wanted to take, which is why Lana hung around for so long even though we all knew she had to go eventually. She has to leave. But leaving means Clark’s “grown up” now and that doesn’t work either. So you’re sort of trapped in this 2 steps forward-one step back dance to ensure things happen, but not too fast. Aw heck, we can just reset things if it does go too fast, so try it out. It could never go full steam ahead because there was always this built in ending block of Superman that they could never really reach.
I have to admit I liked episodes that introduced other heroes from the DC universe, but the later seasons struck me as way too prone to extended speechifying. I ended up fast-forwarding over numerous tenth-season scenes, typically whenever Lois started talking about how “the red and blue blur” was a hero for all humanity and … zzzzz…
Smallville should have ended when they graduated high school. I didn’t last a season past that. Supernatural should have wrapped a while ago, too, but unlike Smallville I’ll do a marathon and catch up past seasons on Netflix when I’m home sick.
