If HHH does the job for Kurt it will be worth it. I was hoping Jordan really was injured and his stupid storyline would disappear.
Jinder could have been a credible champion but it’s a total push, nobody wanted him around before. So now AJ fights Brock, AJ has to do all the work while Brock throws in a suplex here and there. This is a case where I’d rather not see a clean win.
I’m glad to see Seamus and Cesaro win back the titles if they’re not going to take a break for a while. They are the best non-comical tag team in WWE right now, they should disappear for a while, then come back to take away the title Rowan and Harper will one day seem to have a stronghold on.
Well, I did post a scenario earlier this year involving Angle interfering on Jordan’s behalf and protecting him, leading to a match between Angle and Trips… But that was more of a ‘Angle still not allowed to wrestle, gets physically involved in a match between Jordan and Trips’ type thing.
Well, looks like Jinder won’t be getting the title back any time soon. The India tour has been cut down to a single show, where Jinder will be wrestling Triple H, so unless Hunter somehow puts the belt on himself in the next three weeks it ain’t happening.
Maybe Vince finally realized that 1.3 billion Indians don’t have either the money or the inclination to buy his stuff to see a Canadian Sikh of Punjabi ancestry pretend to represent them in a fictional sport that isn’t even that popular there.
'Bout a week ago was another home-grown house show! This was an especially interesting one because we definitely got the B and C team. I have a habit of taking notes for every house show we go to, who faced who, promos etc. It’s been fun looking back at all the people we’ve seen. But my phone was D-E-D dead, so I had Mrs. Cups take the notes. Here they are with only minor notes from myself:
Dumbass Julia Stiles spews her garbage…She’s the new Dasha/Greg. She’s terrible and looks like a weird version of Julia Stiles
No way Jose vs Asian Finn Balor aka Jason?? (sans abs)
Mandy Rose (White Snake video) vs Aaliyah
Oney Lorkin & Danny Burch vs TM61…TM 61 acting VERY heelish.
Kona Reeves (?) Vs Naki – the Asian match
Buddy Murphy interrupted by German/Russian mob turns in to tag team match with Sanity…This was a new group of guys I’ve literally never seen before. I barely even caught their names because they were foreign. They looked very Russian, but were actually German. They were clearly a heel faction, which was odd because Sanity are heels and Murph was cutting a heel promo (amidst lots of chants for Larry-Steve). Their music was a piece of orchestra that was recognizable, but I couldn’t tell you what it was/was from. Last weird thing of the match, these German guys were openly going against Wolfe…who is German.
Intermish
Raul Mendoza vs Dan Maitha (roids acne guy)
Sonya Deville vs Liv Morgan
Hideo Itami vs Johnny Garbanzo
Despite the weird card, a ton of other people were there. For reasons not getting into, we had to stay way later than normal and saw everyone tearing down the ring. Ruby Riot was there, Authors of Pain, and Roddy were the four I saw.
DUH! No more James Ellsworth. Too bad. He really grew on me. Considering he was originally intended as a one-shot jobber, he did well to extend his tenure.
Maybe Big Cass is incoming to SD? He and Carmella are a rl couple, and he could play the role of psycho boyfriend.
Off to House of Hardcore #34 show tonight. Anyone have any messages for Tommy Dreamer. One of my friends was a former gym partner of his. With luck, Mick Foley will make another appearance, as he lives about 10 minutes from the arena. Doubt we’ll see Bubba Ray this time though, even though he is also local to the arena.
Tommy said, “Who?” (Yes, I really did ask him after the show)
No Raven, but lots of ECW alumni, with Super Crazy going over in the finale, simultaneously pinning both members of The (Spirit) Squad. Elimination order was Li’l Guido, Joey Mercury, Shane Douglas, Magnus, Tommy Dreamer, The Squad. Billy Gunn vs. MVP was better than expected, and the crowd gave Gunn more of a face pop than MVP (though both got face reactions). I think this threw MVP off a little. Best bout was three-way dance between Matt (Son of Havoc) Cross, Willie (Big) Mack (making is HoH debut), and Petey (the Original Canadian Destroyer) Williams. Petey went over, and Mack was the man outside the ring most of the time. Some of Mack’s moves, for a guy his size, are awe-inspiring.
I think Drew loses but retains. And if Nikki Cross doesn’t win, Moon wins and Cross is on a bus to the big show (no, not The Big Show, just the big show).
It’s a shame. They really had something with him initially, but of course they ruined it. On the bright side, those T-shirts will be worth a fortune now.
Wow, War Games main event was a fucking masterpiece. I am in awe. I feel like my life has changed.
Favorite moments:
Undisputed Era taunting and laughing at Sanity while they were in the shark cages, and Sanity getting enraged
Alexander Wolfe channeling Sex Pistols era punk moves.
Killian Dane taking on Authors of Pain by himself and splashing them with an Avalanche. Mauro bellows “Somebody call the St. Bernards for the Authors of Pain!”
Roderick Strong adopting AoP garb to show solidarity.
Strong and Cole’s Superplex off the top of the cage onto the assembled crowd below. Mauro calls it “The Mt. Everest Superplex!”
Adam Cole escaping certain death when everybody else mass power-bombed each other, and then gloating about it.
Setting up Adam Cole and Roderick Strong to be a huge, huge feud.
Women’s Fatal Four-Way:
MARRY ME NIKKI CROSS!!! She took a powerbomb on the floor for fuck’s sake! She is genuinely NUTZ!
Aleister Black vs Velveteen Dream:
I was really impressed with this match. VD incorporated the brash sassiness of Rick Rude, the limberness of Dolph Ziggler, and the choreography of Ric Flair. His facial expressions were priceless. Aleister would give him the cold 1000-yard stares, then flip over into his yoga sitting position, as if VD were no longer a threat. So much great psychology in this match, and both these guys had the timing of veterans. Alesiter said VD’s name after the match, showing respect to a worthy opponent.
I’m not that big a fan of Almos, but he’s not a bad choice for NXT champ. I thought Drew’s tenure would be longer. Maybe they’ll call him up to SD to reunite with Jinder.
Another Takeover winner. MARK MARK MARK MARK MARK!
I was pretty impressed with the Black Dream match. I expected that VD would lose because he’s still pretty inexperienced - he started in October 2014, so three years and none of it really wrestling a lot.
I was moderately convinced that they called a switch on the title because Drew was hurt, or because he took a hard stinger on that head drop. He didn’t even sell the pin much (staring at the lights) but reacted to that left arm. Given he stayed right there and they worked hard to keep the camera off him, combined with how shocked Almas was, there’s something more there than a planned belt change.
Just watched the end of that match again. Not 100% sure where he injured it.
Watch that last move very carefully. Almas seriously protected Drew. Dropped him on his right shoulder (left arm/shoulder being the injured one), right on top of himself! Almas took the blow! Dayum. I gotta respect someone who can do that and make it look legit in the moment.
