Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

Hehehehe I thought it was pretty accurately done, STC! I’m wondering if there’s a reverse Urban Dictionary out there.

The SD infomercial was soooooo friggin’ boring. I got tired of Renee Young and Byron Saxton golly-geeing each other, so I turned it off after the halfway mark.

I just read that Hideo Itami won a mini-tournament to be the NXT rep in the AtGMBR, which got moved to the pre-show, which means it’s going to last 2 minutes because WM just has to be promoted to the Abyss and back and there can be no room for actual wrestling. The only matches I’m really interested in are the IC ladder match, Seth vs RKO, and Bray vs UT.

So who wants to set up the Google Hangout? I’m not sure my comp can handle the bandwidth.

I didn’t watch one red second of SD because I just knew it’d be one giant commercial. I watched the Wisconsin game instead (Go Badgers!)

I’m so disappointed about the Battle Royale being moved to the preshow. What a waste of time and talent, although that officially kills any “Sheamus comes in as a surprise and wins it” rumors, no way they’d waste him on that shit.

Good for Hideo for winning the tourney. He beat Balor for the win.

Anyone else hear that WWE is trying to phase Jerry Lawler out of TV? This apparently started with him only being on SD, and now he’s apparently been replaced as the host of the Hall of Fame by…hold on now…Eva Marie.

I am all for a hangout as well. I’m not video capable so it would have to be a text only type thing…but regardless I’m for it. I can figure out a way to set it up if we have enough bites on it

Well, you gotta leave room for the commercials, sketches, musical guests, the monologue, Weekend Update…

I, unfortunately, will be working Sunday night, so I’m going to miss watching the show live and will be unable to offer my opinions until Monday afternoon. (On the plus side, I should therefore be able to watch the entire six-hour show in about two and a half.)

In other news, it’s being reported this morning that Lucha Underground is planning its first live special for August. Details are sketchy, but “Lucha Ultimo” is the name they’re tossing around, and it’ll probably run for 2-3 hours right around Summerslam season.

I’m not sure what I think of Lucha doing PPV-style special events. One of their strengths is that they’re free to let storylines develop naturally and end whenever makes most sense, rather than having to always build to a monthly big event. OTOH, three hours of Lucha Underground madness gives me The Thickening.

We’ll see. As before, I’m willing to trust LU quite a bit right now.

Highly recommend turning on Talk is Jericho (start at 21 min give or take) because his guest is Daniel Bryan and he talks about his injury and everything around that.

Really really interesting to hear who he saw and how it all went down

Rey Mysterio is considering retirement in the wake of the death of Perro Aguayo. He was supposedly heading to LU before that tragic incident.

If Rey decides to stick it out, how will LU creative handle it? They specialize in exploring the tragic and epic details of a lucha’s life and career. They would certainly make Aguayo’s death a big part of Rey’s promos, and explore the effect it has on his mindset. They’re all about the soul searching, but Rey may not want any part of that. They can’t outright ignore it, either.

Actually, he’s already denied that rumor.

The next Paul Heyman guy mebbe?

Can Paul Heyman even control whatever kind of half-man-demon-thing Finn Balor is?

I can see him selling it that way, too. Deal with Finn Balor outside the ring, or deal with THE DEMON.

Then a feud against Kane, with him retiring at the end of it. Finn is the new Demon of WWE.

Well, except for the whole thing of the crowd totally marking out for Balor.

I still say Kevin Owens would fit right in with Heyman and Brock.

FWIW, I’m waiting to figure out what I’m doing for Mania. If I’m not going over to watch at a friend’s place, I’ll be game for this.

Erm. Have you been watching a different Lucha Underground than the rest of us? I’m going to list the roster off the top of my head here.

Drago: A reincarnated dragon.
Aerostar: An… astronaut, maybe? He’s billed from “the cosmos”, anyway.
El Mariachi Loco: A mariachi from a local cantina who plays mariachi music after matches for tips.
Mil Muertes: Was buried in the Mexico City earthquake and became a personification of death. Has a girlfriend who steals people’s souls or something by licking them post-match; all of his power lives in a bit of rubble from the flat block.
Fenix: A man who literally cannot die.
Prince Puma: A guy in a puma mask who never says anything?
Dario Cueto: A seedy guy who enjoys the occasional bit of nose candy, worships the Aztec gods, and has some sort of cage monster in the basement.
Johnny Mundo: Kind of a hollywood guy? They do acknowledge that he’s had a wrestling career before this.
Alberto, El Patron: Received vague ill-treatment in some previous employment. Is a rich, super charismatic guy who will armbar you to death.
Texano: Really dislikes Alberto, El Patron. Likes cowboy hats and ropes.
Pentagon Jr: Trained in the east; now has a master who has an insatiable appetite for broken arms.
Big Ryck: Hard man from the streets who enjoys a good cigar. Used to have a Crew. Is religious and capable of going all Old Testament when necessary.
The Crew: Three cholos from the streets. Used to like Big Ryck (who I want to call Bygg Ryck, because I’m a dork); now work for Dario Cueto.
Pimpenela Escarlata: Ummmmmm.

If there is one thing that I am confident about, it is that this recent situation will never come up on Lucha Underground for Rey unless he wants it to (and maybe not even then).

Yes LawMonkey, I know they manufacture eloquent back stories that have no basis in reality, but Rey’s situation is too remarkable to ignore. I can see LU making a big production out of Rey’s remorse and painting him as a tragic figure. They don’t need to make anything up! They made allusions to Chavo having to answer to the Mexicans he betrayed, and I wouldn’t put it past them to bring in “friends of Aguayo” seeking revenge. Real-life scandal is the best angle there is!

I don’t think it’d be good for LU to bring the real-life situation with Rey into his storyline. The man is getting legitimate death threats in Mexico - it would just be tasteless and too close to home for AAA to do a “hey, remember the time you killed one of Mexico’s biggest stars?” angle on a product that airs there. The best way to acknowledge it, IMO, would be a subtle allusion in a promo where he mentions something about having regrets or having lost people close to him.

In lighter news, it’s been reported that Hideo Itami finally pulled the trigger and used the go-to-sleep in a match with Tyler Breeze at last night’s house show in California. I don’t believe it was taped for TV, though, so we’ll still have to wait awhile to see him to it on camera.

Here’s some WWE art I’ve done throughout the years.

Looks pretty stiff compared to Punk’s version.

Here’s one from ringside:

Those are all really good.

Love the Paige one, and I LOOOOOOVE the buzzard on a chair design

Way to go

Anyone else watch the Hall of Fame last night?

I watched until about half-way through Nash, when it was getting pretty late and I wanted to go to bed.

Heh, looks like Itami is getting his initiation into the WWE with those slaps from Big Show.

Yeah I thought it was pretty bad actually…plus getting thrown out by Bo was…not my favorite
