I absolutely love Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor Underground. I know, they’re simple games. But with the WW2 scenes, cool graphics and stirring music, it hooked me.
You realise those screenshots are for Medal of Honour: Allied Assault, which is a PC-only game, right?
If you mean Medal of Honour: Frontline, which I have on the PS2, then it’s vastly better than the original PSX games. I tried the latter the other night and was shocked at how lifeless the graphics and sound were; in MOH:F everything is crisply rendered and the sound is superb (particularly with artillery crashing around you, fighters zooming overhead and machine-guns tearing up the ground in the opening Normandy landing level.
The only disappointment is the linear nature of the game: there’s only one path through the levels, and you find it sooner or later. There’s not really any way to sneak round, take shortcuts etc. The Normandy landings level is a case in point: you can run around the beach, but only within the limits of some unconvincing wire that stop you from exploring further.
I just finished MOH:Frontline last week. Nice graphics, great sound, and some pretty entertaining missions. The AI isn’t the smartest in the world, but it’s intelligent enough to make the game interesting.
I’ve only got a few complaints:[ol][li]No multiplayer.[]The controls are touchy, which makes aiming your weapon frustrating at times.[]The game is very linear, and there are only a couple of levels where you get to interact with Allied soldiers. Most of the time, it’s you vs. the Germans.[/ol][/li]All things considered, though, these are relatively minor issues. I think it’s a great game.
I just played it yesterday. I’d recommend that instead of buying Medal of Honor for PS2, you buy Half-Life for the computer, then go to www.dayofdefeatmod.com and download the mod “Day of Defeat”. Its like Medal of Honor, except better. Plus, there are lots of other great mods for half-life (if you didn’t already know.)
