Anybody still watching Young Sheldon?

I notice the thread discussing this has dropped off the displayed CS pages, and the Search function seems to be broken, so I’ll start a new one to resurrect.

I’m really digging this show. I didn’t expect to, but I find it’s one of the few shows I actually watch more than once on my DVR (most others just get deleted after one viewing). I still think they hit a nice sweet spot between “The Wonder Years” and the best of old “Roseanne”–a flawed family who love each other despite their various quirks, while dealing with both real-world and more fantastical issues. Other than Sheldon himself, my favorite character is Meemaw. I love how she takes no crap from the rest of the family (even Sheldon, whom she dotes on).

I was embarrassed last night, as a devoted “Watchmen” fan, that I didn’t realize the “Blue Man’s Backside” referred to Dr. Manhattan.

I think YS is turning into a better show than BBT.

I’m in agreement with your assessment Infovore.

Except, I think comparing YS to BBT is like comparing apples to oranges.
BBT, I expect to laugh. Usually at their cheap one-liners.

YS, I haven’t had a lot of laughs with this show. But I still walk away from every episode feeling thoroughly entertained.

And yeah, Meemaw is awesome. Sis is too.

I’m enjoying it!

I like it too. I try to forget that this sweet little boy grew up to be Sheldon.

We usually have to replay several times per episode, we’re laughing so hard. Love Meemaw and especially Little Sis. Her remarks are usually so deadpan and droll. For what it’s worth, we’ve never seen the other show - whatever it’s called.

I finally got around to looking up the actress who plays Missy. I wanted to see if she and the boy who plays Sheldon were actually related…nope. But what beautiful children those two are.

I’ve only seen about the first 9 episodes but thought it was really good. Good to hear the quality hasn’t dropped off. I need to binge the more recent ones to catch up.

I find it a “pleasant” show to watch. Not really all that funny but okay enough to keep watching.

(Obscure reference.)
Ever since last week’s show I’ve been annoying Mrs. FtG by saying “Go Bears.” in a Minnesota accent at random times.

I still like it, fun to watch when I have 20 minutes to spare for something lightweight and nice.

I am (surprisingly) really enjoying this show, and I usually abhor tv children. A bit of cognitive dissonance for me - a kid who looks like Young Sheldon grows up to look like Tom Cruise, not Jim Parsons, as lovely a human being as Jim Parsons seems to be.

I’ve been watching it. Better than I would have expected.

I’m surprised it’s still on.
I’ve watched three episodes (1st, 2nd, and the 5th) and didn’t even grinned.
The actor is good, but the character is just as annoying as Old Sheldon, without a Leonard to ground him. More than a “real” young Sheldon, it’s like the version of his childhood where his is always the hero and everyone else is stupid.
But if other people like it and they are happy about it, more power to them.

Chuck Lorre’s shows always take a few episodes to come together. I am now enjoying Young Sheldon very much.

And Montana Jordan, who plays Sheldon’s older brother Georgie, has a good acting future ahead of him. He steals every scene he is in. It was the early episode where he “borrowed” Meemaw’s car that got me hooked.

I’m enjoying YS too, except that I keep comparing the characters to their older ones on TBBT (especially Meemaw). I wish I could just watch it for what it is.

Yeah, Meemaw kind of bugs me, because I love Annie Potts’s version, and I don’t really like the version in BBT. They look nothing like each other, and don’t really act much like each other either.

I’m hoping we’ll see Georgie and Tam turn up in BBT at some point.

Well, this being YS, it could be that YS takes place in a parallel universe. So there may be some minor inconsistencies between the two shows.

Yeah, this is the approach I suggested in the earlier thread.

I don’t have the problem with the mother vs TBBT, but knowing that the sister grows up to be totally hot is off-putting, since no one wants to think like a pervert. Just how many seasons can they keep YS running before 1) Sheldon goes away completely or 2) the sister takes over the show.

I hadn’t actually thought about this until your comment - but in fact, with old Sheldon providing narration, this really is a story about how Sheldon remembers his childhood, so it’s not surprising he is the hero of his own story.

I like it enough to continue watching. It’s nothing groundbreaking. Simple mass market entertainment.
