At our church we did Psalty 3 up to about 7 back in the 80s. It was our Sunday School anniversary for years. Managed to find a video of it to rent a coupla months back and brother does it look naff! I’d love to do them again with a new load of kids, but no-one ever seems to have heard of it or if they have they haven’t performed it for years.
So has your church done a Psalty or are you planning to?
If you have no idea what I’m on about, look here Yes. We had the costumes too. I alas never made it as a giant blue singing book in life…
Why yes, yes I have! I was in my late elementary school or junior high school days when we did it. Sometime in the late '80s or early '90s. From what I remember, we had a great time with it. There were plenty of parts, both speaking and singing, to go around. We also had fun with the choreography. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work just as well today. It was a good program with a good message.
We got up to about 8 and then almost ran out of them…
Now we haven’t got enough kids to do it
But with a new church and a bigger youth group, maybe.
It also took about 2 or 3 months to rehearse. But our new lot do pantos and things so it may just work
We did ours as our annual Christmas program, which included all the Sunday school kids. It was Psalty’s Christmas Calamity, I believe. I doubt we would have had enough participation if we had tried to do another one at another time during the year. But at Christmas it was just expected that everyone would be in it.
I haven’t thought of Psalty in YEEAARRRSS!!! I still remember some of the songs though. This is bringing up a weird memory for me. We used to watch the Psalty videos in sunday school, along with the Gospel Bill show on occasion. I think I had a weird kid crush on Nicodemus.
ahh, good times, good times.
Psalty’s sing-a-long alum checking in.
I performed in at least two Psalty productions. The first one, and the Christmas one. I was one of the three Kings in the Christmas one. (This might amuse you more if you knew that I was a girl. Mary and Joseph were hand-picked and the rest of us drew roles out of a hat. When I got sick and couldn’t come to one performance, another girl was chosen to take my place). We also sang lots of songs from various other Psalty productions at various times. However, its been almost twenty years since then.
Hang on…WAS a girl…the operation went well then
I recognize it - but I looked through the site, and I can’t find the songs that I remember singing with a guy in a big, blue book costume.
I know I saw “HiTops” which is mentioned on the site, and I think my younger siblings did one of the “Charity Churchmouse” ones…
Along the same lines - does anyone remember doing “The Music Machine”?
