Anyone else having a quoting issue?

This has been happening on two computers (FF on both computers Win 7 on the one I’m using now, possibly Vista on the other).

Here’s what happens. I’ll quote a post, type something, hit submit. Then I’ll see something else I want to comment on, hit quote and see the other quote, then the new post I quoted. It’s almost like VB thinks I’m using the multiquote button or after I hit submit it still has that ‘quote’ in it’s memory for me.

Just to clarify, it’s not saying “You have X quotes selected…” or whatever it says at the bottom sometimes, it’s that the previous thing I quoted is popping up in the Post New Thread/Reply box with the new quote as if I had selected both of them.

I haven’t been paying enough attention to watch for patterns so I don’t know if I have to do it quickly or if minutes or hours can elapse between the first and second part of this. I also don’t know if it all has to happen in the same thread or if it can span multiple threads.

As of right now, I’m just curious to see if it’s happening to anyone else.

Also, it’s very intermittent, it’s probably happened 4 or 5 times in the last week or so.

Yeah, just popped up for me.

Interesting. So it’s remembering quotes you’ve already posted and popping them back into the edit window.

Better than what it’s doing to me. Mine keeps not putting multiquotes in the edit window. I flag a series of quotes in a thread, open the reply box, nothin’. I gotta go manually pull the quotes.

Or I get a post all composed, hit “preview”, it shows up, but then the edit window is blanked. That makes preview worthless because it erases my work.

Or I hit edit on a post I posted to fix a typo and it removes all the coding and quote markers.

Yes, all this has happened to me. But I haven’t gotten extra material being held over yet.

It would be helpful if we could find some commonality in this discussion.

What are you using to connect to The Straight Dope? Device, operating system, browser … everything that would be informational could help us figure this out, perhaps.

Sorry to hear you’re having problems. We’d appreciate hearing more about this. The devil is always in the details.

Firefox on both computers, Win 7 on one, Vista on the other.

Also, I’m on FF24 on this computer, my other computer is probably the same, if not, it’s pretty close, it hasn’t nagged be about an update recently.

FWIW I am running a Dell Optiplex 9010 with Windows 7, using IE 9.
