Anyone else observing Pie Day?

It’s 3.14 (if you’re in the US), and I brought pie! One apple, one French silk. Both homemade. I think I should have gone with an Oreo crust for the French silk, but it’s good anyway.

Enjoy! /-----------------[}

Here’s a Pi song!

Pi - Kate Bush

Fans used to joke that Kate could sing the phone book and it would be enthralling. Well, here, she sings the Pi numbers and it’s just as cool as we could have imagined. Though I think she messes up somewhere in the middle there.

My daughter, who is 15 and a math geek, and I went to Marie Callenders for lunch. I had rhubarb pie and she had French apple both ala mode.

Just wait until seven years from now (3.14.16). I think I might try to organize a block party.

Every year we have Pie day at our house (one year we tried to have it at a bar owned by a friend, but it was a frikkin disaster). Every person or couple brings a pie, and we eat ourselves stupid.

Most years there’s one or two savory pies, and the rest are dessert pies. We’re all in sugar comas by the end of they party. This year, people wised up–and nearly everyone brought a savory pie! Our only dessert pies were two key lime pies. Delicious, but next year we’ll probably request a better pie distribution. Just because the number’s irrational doesn’t mean the meal has to be.

(My contribution this year: pickled onion/kalamata/feta/spinach pizza. Yum!)

My daughter’s soccer team had their party today. She INSISTED she bring pie in honor of pie day. I think she might have even eaten it at 1:59.

We had apple pie for dessert today, and I’m working on a pi shawl.

Meat pies for lunch, pumpkin pie for dessert. I like the idea of a Pi[e] Party. We should try that.

Meh. In my opinion, 2π is the truly fundamental quantity. (I suppose I could celebrate on June 28th with both apple and cherry…)

Did you guys hear the news?

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a resolution introduced two days earlier that designates March 14, 2009 (3/14, get it?) as National Pi Day. It urges schools to take the opportunity to teach their students about Pi and “engage them about the study of mathematics.”
Here is the link

I made a youtube video for Pi Day.

I made a vegetable pot pie for lunch, and we had apple pie after dinner. Mmm pie day.

I assigned students in my pre-calculus class to make pies and bring them in on Friday for a party. I also assigned to make recipe sheets (worksheets where the answers to the problems are the quantities in the recipe) for the pie recipes. A good time was had by all.

I only read this thread today, so does that mean I’ve missed pie day? Can I celebrate it today instead?

Some sad misalignment of stars ordained that no matter how I loved pie, I would never be able to make a good one. My grammie was a superb pie baker; my mother and my daughter can make the angels sing with their perfect crusts and sublime fillings. Alas, the mojo skipped my generation, and I have to content myself with “bought” pies, or family occasions where Mom and/or my kid have brought one.

It’s not like I haven’t tried. I know that you have to use cold fat, cut it into the flour with two knives or a pastry blender, use a minimum of ice-cold water to bring it all together, and roll gently. I just CANNOT DO IT! And no, mixes or unfoldable crusts don’t make it any better. My crust is always soggy on the bottom. And if I blind bake it first, it shrinks up. Even with pie weights. I am cursed, I tell you, CURSED! My pie tastes of donkey poop.

Fortunately, I am a good person and am loved for my other wonderful qualities.

Nov. 10 seems more appropriate, being the 314th day of the year.

Barring that, wouldn’t Pi day make more sense on the 22 of July - 22/7?

I never use numbers for months, myself…

With all that pie eating going on, you’re all going to be increasing your circumferences.

the best pi song

I missed it too (sigh). But fortunately due to some thoughtful legislation, we can celebrate it all month;).

Are you good at making bread? It seems like most bakers I know are good at pie crust or bread, but not both.

I wen to Pi day party. I wanted to take a cherry pie, but there were too many people signed up for desserts, so I took meatballs (hey, they’re round, right?).
