Anyone else working on Turkey Day ?

I am here at work doing my DJ duties. I had the choice of having off Christmas or Thanksgiving, so here I am. Tried to grab a bite to eat before I got here - but hey guess what ? Nothing was open. Not even McDonalds. I thought Mikey D’s was open 365 . . . huh. Wondered if there where any other dopers at the grind today too. Perhaps later I will go by an open grocery store and get myself stuff for a turkey sandwich. Thats close right ? Someone out there eat some stuffing for me !

I am here at the office pushing paper, which I do pretty much every day.

In the office another half hour. I ate at McD because the Wendy’s next door was closed. Guess franchises decide on their own. I will have a traditional dinner soon.

I’m working the door at the only bar in Evanston open on Thanksgiving. I start at ten P.M. so I get to see the family, eat mass quantities, drink all I want, and still go to work and ogle young college girls

As a former movie theater manager, I used to work every Thanksgiving and had two traditions: (1) I’d get a Thanksgiving card and give it to the Bay Bridge toll attendant as a kindred-spirit gesture, and (2) my wife would come to the theater and get into movies free all day, so we’d see each other between shows and then go home for some late night dinner.

Those days are past but I’ve been there in spades, so to everyone who’s working today, I want to Thank You and send out best wishes, hoping you have a little time to spend with friends and family before the day’s out.

I’m at work.

Can’t complain, though, I just had 5 days off for deer hunting.

Yep, slavin’ away here…

Of course, I’m in Canada.

Happy Thanksgiving, folks!

Al.

Yeah, what’s up with that. Canadian Thanksgiving is in … what… August? or some month without an r. Geez, talk about un-American.

It’s October, I think, but IANAC.
I’m at home, but I’ve spent the day doing image analysis from the lab and writing my personal statement from grad school applications. I feel like I’m working, even if I’m not paid.

I worked. Animal emergency. It was slow, though, and management provided a whole turkey dinner. It wasn’t too bad.

I was supposed to, but I got explosive diahrhea (I can NEVER spell that word!) from eating too many stuffed mushrooms.
So I called off.
groan

I work graves, I worked Wednesday night and am working Thursday night. Worked out good for me though, I get paid double time, plus I got to sleep through all the cooking and wake up for the eating.

Not only did I have to work Thanksgiving, but it is my !@#$ Birthday too.

@#$% grumble

October 8th this year - decidedly un-american.

Yep. I work nights, so I got home on Thanksgiving around 7:30 AM, went to bed, finally fell asleep around 9ish, and was awakened at 1 PM by the dogs barking at arriving family members. Now I’m back at work, but it hasn’t been Thanksgiving for 3 hours now.

Good thing is that I get an extra 16 hours on my paycheck.

Nothing like being tossed out of bed in the middle of the day, only to have family wonder why “you don’t seem very cheery today”.

grumble

Actually, it is not so bad.

I work 6PM to 5AM doing phone tech support. Usually, it is as quiet as the grave. So I really can’t complain. Gives me time to surf the Straight Dope.

I work every holiday!

It’s big time easy money. Double time and a half! And not that much to do, and nobody looking over my shoulder while I do it. I could be working naked and no one would know.

Hmmmmm, naked…

Nope. Got x-mas day off
Happy TG to all you 'murkins

Thanks for sharing that warm holiday thought, Guin!

I am in the office doing absolutely nothing except surfing on the internet. The only ones here are us private contractors, since all the civil service and military types are taking the 4-day weekend. Nothing but us “hired guns” watching TV, net-surfing, and taking frequent coffee and smoke breaks today.
