Am I the only one who feels like even though I am physically present at work today, I shouldn’t have to do any actual work, because it’s almost a holiday and it seems like 90% of the people around here have already packed up their mini-vans and headed to Grandma’s?
Every time someone gives me something to work on, I feel this tiny self-righteous chunk of indignation.
Me too, I haven’t gotten very much done at all today. The office is half-empty, my Sametime list is just about deserted, and I don’t have a lot of motivation. But I am telecommuting in tomorrow, so it really feels like the day before, instead of the day before the day before.
Eh … I have to work on Thanksgiving day. I’m also too broke to go buy some food to make myself a little meal to take with me on Thanksgiving day. My paycheck can’t be deposited until Thursday and since the banks will be closed that means I won’t be able to eat until Friday so, I say, BAH HUMBUG!
Tomorrow this place (my work, not the SDMB) is going to be a ghost town. Not ONE of the people to whom I report will be in–and not very many other people I know, either. I mentioned to one of my bosses that I would be the only one here, and she said, “Eh, so you’ll take off early.”
I do have some work … but it’s nothing time-sensitive. My boss is on vacation, too. She’s my main motivation for actually working on every other day, as I sit directly in front of her office and all she has to do is raise her head to see me.
The rest of the department is actually quite busy, but I don’t have much to do. I have posted to the boards more in the last two days than I have in the last two months, I think. (Post #1,000, here I come!)
Tomorrow will be even worse. It’s extraordinarily unlikely I’ll get to leave early, but I fully expect the whole department to give up the ghost around 2 p.m.
The first time I worked for my company, we had to work the Friday. None of our clients do. A television and the CU-Nebraska game was standard.
When I came back, I found that the boss finally gave up. I guess he figured that if he was paying us to do nothing, he might just as well pay us to stay home.
I feel the same way. I have done no work at all today. I can not concentrate on anything other than SDMB and internet surfing. My mind is drifting to the long awaited 4 day weekend. I have to work tomorrow on my birthday so that really sucks. And I am sure tomorrow like every other “day before the holiday work day” the big boss from up front will stop around and tell all the managers and directors that they can let there people go for the day since he is now leaving. Of course he will tell them this at 2 pm and my boss will tell me I can leave at 4 pm
Oy!, you rock. Here I started a thread just to complain that Insta-Princess is not getting her way, and you’re actually helping out your fellow person.
Now I’m feeling all Linus (you know how he’s always the one to come out with the true meaning of whatever season Charlie Brown and the gang are celebrating).
Maybe you should just make a point of sticking close to your manager, so that when the announcement comes at 2:00, you’ll be right there and can say, “Great! I’ll go tell everyone!”
Do you mind if I ask what you do? I mean, is it a situation where you and your coworkers rotate working on holidays, or do you always just have to work holidays?
