The spouse has discovered the joys of superhero cosplay. He’s got a couple of really cool ones he’s put together (he doesn’t sew…he looks for or commissions components) for Captain America’s Winter Soldier suit and The Comedian from Watchmen, but now he wants the Captain America suit from the upcoming Avengers 2: Age of Ultron movie. Here’s what he says he’s looking for:
“I want to know who made the suit for the movie (production company, design studio), and if there’s any way to contact them; or, failing that, someone who makes real, movie-quality replicas of costumes like that.”
So he’s looking for the good stuff, not a cheap replica. This is his major hobby, so he’s willing to pay a decent amount for a good-quality, detailed costume. He already has the shield, so he wouldn’t need that.
Anyone have any ideas? Keep in mind he’s done a lot of Googling, so if it’s easy to find via Google he’s probably already checked it out.
They can’t manufacture an exact duplicate of the jacket, but it’s close enough where someone who works with leather could make the adjustments needed. If you have enough leather, photos and cash, you can get someone to do the work unofficially.
Alexandra Byrne designed the costumes. She’s had one Oscar win and four nominations so she’s probably not going to design a suit for your husband on the cheap, and contractually she can’t go around making other people their very own Avenger’s outfits.
Well, Alexandra Byrne is the costume designer for the new Avengers film (funny how I can never visualize any “Avengers” that don’t involve Diana Rigg – but I digress), but apparently the only way to find out who her talent agent is is to subscribe to some special industry-insider version of imdb.
Thanks - hadn’t seen that one before. I know he’s not looking for leather, though–he’s looking for something out of that same cordura-ish fabric that the real one is made of. I’ll pass that link on to him just in case, though.
Yeah, unfortunately I’m sure you’re right. Even though he can afford to pay quite a bit for the costume, I’m gonna guess that by her standards it would still be “on the cheap.”
Perhaps this enters into “easy to google” but has he contacted cosplayers whose costumes he considers to be high quality? If they have a costume he considers to be of high quality, they either they can make them or know someone who does.
Some professional cosplayers make themselves easy to find and may be willing to make it for him at likely less than Hollywood specialist rates.
That’s a good idea. I’m not sure he’s researched other cosplayers much (I know he prowls around cosplay message boards), but it might be worth a try. Thanks!
Quite a few of the cosplayers who make their own costumes have deviantart pages. I know this because there’s a bit of crossover with the artisans who make LARP armour and other stuff. So you can also search there.
