Anyone looking forward to "Clerks 2"

Maybe I can use post #29 for you instead.

Jim

Here’s a minor inane thing I like, which most people I know “just don’t get”:

Piss away…

-FrL-

The dialog is why I like Kevin Smith movies. Like Randal commenting on the ending of Return of the Jedi and the tragic deaths of all independent contractors who must have been working on the Death Star when it was destroyed. There’s a goofy insight in being able to tap into geeky obsessions and surpass them. He wins the affection of the fanboys by making fun of them in a way that only another fanboy can.

The criticisms are valid. There are many things (pacing, structure, camera-work, etc.) that Kevin Smith doesn’t do as well as other people. But there are things he does well that no one else does at all.

Put me down for tickets.

Hey, I heard somewhere that Happy Scrappy Hero Pup’s name is a Clerks reference. I don’t remember where, though. Has anyone else heard that?

Are you sure? I thought it was a reference to the worst added on Cartoon character of all time. :smack:

Well, he has compensating qualities (::cough:: big penis ::cough::slight_smile:

I just say the trailer for this a couple of minutes ago and I really, really can’t wait. Clerks is my favorite Kevin Smith movie, closely followed by Dogma. I also have a real weakness for Mallrats, which I just Tivoed last week and my damned daughter erased before I got the chance to watch it.

Boyyyy, a lot of folks here are demonstrating more faith than is merited.

A movie that hits a particular target usually does so only once. Just because “Clerks” was good does not mean “Clerks 2” will be. In fact, it’s quite likely “Clerks 2” will suck it raw and be little more than a rehash of the original.

I was watching an interview with Smith; he said words to the effect of, “`Clerks’ was a movie I made about what it was like to be in my 20s. Now I’ve made a movie about what it’s like to be in my 30s.” Umm, Kevin; during your 30s, you were a rich Hollywood director. I don’t think you actually have a lot of current experience in working in burger joints, dude.

But I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in this case.

I have a big penis AND I’m a Kevin Smith fan. So you can see the two are not mutually exclusive.

[sub]Just sayin’, is all…[/sub]

At Cannes this year Clerks II (which was screened out of competition) got an 8-minute standing ovation. Even if the theater was full of hard-core Smith fans, that means that hard-core Smith fans will love the film, and who really cares about anyone else?

I can’t wait!

Well, looking at the box office returns for the last couple of Smith films, those are the only people who go see them anyway. So he’s pretty much the most successful niche director maybe?

He’s certainly the biggest hit when it comes to selling movies to Kevin Smith fans.

If I ever write a personal, I am going to put that in it “Must be a Kevin Smith fan with a big penis!”

I’ve been told on many occasions, by many different people, that I remind them of Randal. In more ways than one. Kevin Smith is my hero.

I am definitely seeing this. Hopefully this weekend.

If you act like and look like Randal, I am officially stalking you starting… now.

I saw the movie last night at a midnight show. I really enjoyed it. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but it was exactly what I expected: funny, gleefully filthy, honest and touching.

Am I the only person who enjoys Kevin Smith movies, yet would feel uncomfortable going to see them at the theater? I only know a few people with whom I would be comfortable watching them.

I will wait impatiently until this is out on DVD, and watch it at home.

Oh, heck, I don’t know anyone who wants to see it. I’m going by myself (hopefully tonight, if not, then tomorrow). That way you don’t end up having to babysit someone who may or may not be enjoying it - you’re seeing it with a whole theater full of people who do want to see it.
