It was a bit more recent than you. Last time you went I was in Maryland and I had probably just barely learned to walk.
Here you go.
I think this is the point where everyone tells us to take the conversation out of the thread (presumably, to instant messenger).
I saw it yesterday - a matinee showing in San Diego. There were like 5 people (1 couple and 3 loners like me). I thought I would be the only one in the theater laughing but was glad not to be.
My take - it started out random and directionless (like Clerks) but in the middle became more plot-driven. I know I’m not describing this right, but did anyone else get this feeling? Overall, I loved it.
Yes, I think I did. It’s not just you.
The bit about Randal not knowing what “porch monkey” meant really kinda hit home for me. I’d never even heard the phrase until a couple of years back (and I grew up in the South, land of bigotry). A friend of mine used that phrase, and “yard ape”, to describe young boys. Specifically (he said), “porch monkey” was a kid too young to be allowed off the porch, and “yard ape” meant a kid too young to be allowed out of the yard.
I had no idea it was a racist thing (neither did my friend, obviously). I thought it was a particularly fitting cute nickname for kids of those ages. Good thing I never personally used it, though.
I never heard that phrase either, and I’ve lived in Texas all my life so I figured I’d heard every possible racial/ethnic slur. That’s sort of comforting, in an odd way.
It’s cool. You’re taking it back.
Put me in the column of people who had never heard this phrase before.
Ditto. I don’t remember having heard “porch monkey” before.
Maybe it’s a Jersey thing. :smack:
Saw it last night after having only seen “Clerks” for the first time last week. I loved both of them!
VCNJ~
Got to see it last night. Very nice. Kevin did a pretty good job.
Downsides: All the musical bits. “Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head” at a gokart track in CA? Sheesh.
The ending was entirely predictable after the first couple of minutes.
Lines:
-
“May your first child be a masculine child.” (Big fan of Luca.)
-
“Ooh, pie.”
-
Get Nails.
There was an earlier thread someone complaining about not bring back Veronica etc. But the thing to note is that aside from the Fab Four (Dante, Randal, Jay and SB), almost no one was brought back as a previous VA character. Lee, Affleck, etc. were new characters and tiny roles at that. (Did you see JLA as a bank teller?)
From IMDB the only actors brought back as previous characters were the aforementioned Milk Maid and “Teen #1” from J&SBSB. Walt “The Man of a Thousand Faces” Flanagan might count but is not listed the same as any of his “Clerks” characters.
So this was a movie about just the Fab Four. No Veronica, Caitlin, Rick Derris, etc.
You are what you do, so be happy with it.
**Last minute change in the NetFlix rolling Roadshow for Clerks with Kevin Smith Q&A. **
It has been moved to Marine Park in Red Bank.
This is a copy of the Email from Netflix:
Please let me know if anyone is going to be there.
Enjoy,
Jim
