A family goes on vacation in possibly Central America, South America, or maybe Egypt. They go on a tour of a cave (???) they get deep in the cave and the guide demands they pay him more money to be led out and they refuse they guide sends them through a portal and they end up in an alternative world. They have to follow some statue type times to get back to Earth.
The episode I remember best was one where the oldest son (I think there was a younger son, a sister, a mother, and father, too) gets bad grades and is put in the military/police and he has to then get the highest ratings to get back out (or something, that does not seem to make sense letting the best out).
I think the alternative world was either a police state or it changed from week to week.
I am almost certain it was on CBS, NBC, or ABC. I think it was on 18-23 years ago.
Further detail, when the son gets the bad grades in school his test is graded by putting it in a machine that spits it right back out graded. I think a girl sees his grade and he says something like “Oh well.” in a flirty way.
You had me curious. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you but I’m glad you found it. Is this the real Andrew Bird or a fan? If real, I love your music. If a fan, you’ve got good taste.
I remember that show. In fact, the one episode I could concretely recall was the one you described about the son getting drafted. I also think I saw at least part of the one described by wiki about the daughter being mistaken for a revered princess or something.
I remember the one episode I saw. The kids form a rock and roll band and play Beatles songs. Since no one on the planet has heard of the Beatles, the songs are all original. They become popular until the secret police comes after them.
I’m guessing every episode had them on the run like The Fugitive or The Incredible Hulk.
This one keeps getting asked about. I asked about it years ago, it was asked again just a few weeks ago. Frustrating that if you don’t know the name of the show, you can’t search for threads on it!
Just a fan. I could not think of name when I signed and I had Fingerlings 2 playing and just went with Andrew Bird.
Are you going to the show in Chicago on 4/20? I don’t know if you have ever seen him live but he is even better live. I used to see him play at the Hideout (a great place for those in Chicago) and he used to play most Mondays in the front room for like 20-40 people (often fewer). This was around five years ago. I kind of knew who he was, but wasn’t really into the whole neo-swing thing. I am not sure if the Swimming Hour was out yet. I think it was. Anyways, one night he played (might have been the first night I saw him play live) MX Missles and he was just learning the guitar. He basically played chords with with a lot hammer-ons, but the song was just awesome. It only had the part of the first verse (which not on MPOE) and the chorus. He told this funny story about how when he was in junior high he saw this video about calcium which got him aroused sexually hence the line “are you made of calcium.” It funny that some of the songs I heard five years are just finally getting an official release on the new album coming out this month.
I highly recommend the Fingerling albums for any Bird fans.
Well, seeing as you’ve already had your question answered, why not just ask a mod to change the thread title, and use this one? It’s already in the right forum…
