Anyone trying out Star Trek Online?

This! Plus if you have a BO with a high yield torp power or similar toggle it up straight away. This way by the time you get in range to launch, the skills cool down will be over letting you get off an additional salvo.

I just did this in a fight, been popping my cooldowns early for the pending shield fall and then discovered I could turn it into a double whammy. Smoked another crusier in one pass.

I am also finding now that I am in a crusier that I use my aft photons as much as my forward.

Now I just need to perfect the phaser, phaser, phaser, photon, 90 degree turn, aft photon, manuver.

Login queues are running now. Currently at 300 of 790

No trial that I can see. Too bad.

I’m playing it, not right now but in general, and I’m really quite fond of it.

I’m a fleet with a bunch of friends from another Sci Fi mmo which was ruined by a series of combat revamps that lead us all to quit… but that’s another story.

Anyway, it’s quite fun. I picked up a lifetime sub during beta, and I haven’t hit a login queue yet, maybe it’s just me. No gamebreaking bugs, but a few minor ones.

I had a disappearing Bridge Officer, but I rectified that by walking down to the Bridge Officer Recruitment guy and picking up a new one for all 100 Starfleet Points they cost to hold me over until I got a better one.

If you have a deltaco near you they have a 10 day trial code on some of their cups.

The bridge officers are something I’m not quite sure I get. I have thousands of starfleet merits and nothing to spend them on. The occasional skill swap, or promotion uses about 1/10th of the merits I receive. I am wondering if they planned on implementing some other thing to use them.

In the higher levels, Tiers 4 and 5, there are a few ships I think, so you can purchase them with the Starfleet Merits.

Also, the higher level Bridge Officer skills cost considerably more to train (I believe 400 per rank).

JayJay, if you PM me I can send you a 10 day buddy code. I got three with the CE and I have one left.

I don’t even bother going to full impulse unless I’m clearing anomalies at the end of a mission. I’ll switch to my “movement” preset instead, which doesn’t wipe out other power levels as much.

I’m still at Lt rank, but I’m happy I was able to recruit my complete bridge crew. I plan to keep the same officers my entire career. (I’m Science, and I have one Science, one Tactical, and two Engineer bridge crew.) I can’t wait to get into the next ship. I’m thinking of going Cruiser, but I might go Science Vessel.

Anyone interested in forming a fleet? I don’t have a ton of playtime, but it’s nice to have people you know to chat with and team up with occasionally.

Sure, i’m up for fleeting. I know some SDMBers are in other fleets, but some form of board fleet would be nice. We’d need a name, though!

Starships on a treadmill?

One of my buddies wants to do a fleet called “We are Strong” in reference to the episodes involving the Paclids(sp?).

I have one available too if anyone is interested.

You don’t want that.

Most of your bridge crew are probably white, but you end up with blue and green ones later on, apparently.

You can use a reward officer to train a skill to an existing officer, instead of placing him in your crew. I’ve already done that twice with mission reward officers. So it’s not necessary to ditch an old officer simply for a skill on a new one.

No disagreement, but I was under the impression that some bridge officers have innate bonuses.

Would I still have to actually buy the game first? Or does the code allow a free download for trial purposes?

Downloading is free. I expect you’ll have to enter a credit card number plus the trial code when you create your account. Once the ten days are up, you’ll need a retail key (which will give you another 30 days). The client will be the same, so you won’t need to reinstall anything.

I’d imagine thats correct. JayJay, I sent the code in a PM to you.
