We need a place with alcohol!
Well it’s right next to the State House so I’m sure there are plenty of bars in the neighborhood too.
Hilltop Steak House.
a 100 foot tall lighted cactus, a herd of fiberglass cows, and plenty of liquor. Big tables that you can commandeer for the evening. Humongous salads. And it’s in the middle of The Strip on Route 1.
Well, I might as well throw out some ideas here.
North East Brewing Company
1314 Commonwealth Ave
Really, any such brewery would do nicely, I think.
The only other place that comes to mind for me right now is Massimino’s on Endicott Street. It’s a little pricey, but we could reserve the wine cellar for our crew and that kicks ass.
Um. I d’know. I’ll have to think more about this.
Btw, Curious Liquids was still there about six months ago, but that’s all I know.
I just looked for reviews on the Hilltop, Cal. That’s looking like pretty good option.
There have got to be more New England Dopers. Where the hell are you people?
Translation: bump
Curious Liquids has either closed or is closing any day.
Hey, count me in. I’m in Central Mass, about an hour outside of Boston.
I’m trying to think of places to have it, though. What about ‘Jake Ivories’ by Fenway? I’ve always had a great time whenever I’ve gone there!
Thanks for keeping this up guys. Maybe a few others will see it if it sticks around for a little while.
I was kinda hoping for somewhere actually in Boston, so’s I wouldn’t have to drive home, and thus could get more intoxicated. Route 1 in Saugus is definately an interesting place, though. I remember going to Wei Lu’s a few times.
Anyways, if we’re gonna do it in September, I’m gonna be off near Albany for college, and really have no idea of what weekends I might be free. If that’s what’s going to get people here, I’ll go for it, and try to be free. Just out of curiosity, anyone know what goes in to planning one of these things?
I’m moving to Boston at the end of August for school, so if its in September I could probably make it. Might be swamped with schoolwork though.

What school? There are a couple in Boston. OK, more like 50.
Sadly, Weylu’s is gone. The huge Mandarin Palace on the hill went bust. The food wasn’t that good anyway but it sure was impressive to see – we took some people rom China there and they were Very impressed. They said they didn’t have anything like it in China.
The problem with mst of the places in Boston proper is that they’re either cramped an/or will tend to try to get you out after you’ve finished. Hilltop is BIG, and you can probaby sta there quite a long time. The problem is that there’s no easy public transit there.
There are other huge and tacky restaurants along route 1, but they tend to be noisy or expensive or “dry” (you can’t get a drink at Kelly’s Famous Roast Beef).
There are probably places in the other 'burbs, but I’m not as familiar with them.
Yeah, WaterJ2, sorry about that. I guess saying ‘a school’ when you are talking about Boston is about as useful as saying a wet place when you are talking about the surface of the earth.
Anyway, I am going to BC Law. yay.
I cant wait to get to boston and start checking out some of these places you guys are talking about. Is it necessary to pick up that godawful accent if you want to live there? I suppose I could get used to it after a while . . .
Not only will you be required to develop a working version of the god-awful accent, but you will also need to abandon all driving skills and etiquette that you may have picked up in the real world outside of Boston.
No accent required. I’ve been here two years and still can’t get the hang of “wicked”.
Look at that. I go away for one day. One day. And people start planning a Dopefest in my area. Unfortunately I fall into the sucky timing catagory. The number of free weekends I have in the next two months can be counted on no hands (a slight exageration). Damn.
Oh, for fork’s sake! Only New Englanders could have this much trouble with scheduling. Luckily, my Louisiana blood still keeps me sane and rational. I’m perfectly willing to bend my schedule for the sake of a dopefest. There are other people I can think of that I’d be less interested in meeting. Remember, folks, we’re not talking about a forty-day marathon of drunken debauchery and world conquest.* All we need is a Friday or Saturday afternoon / evening.
*World conquest will require a more substantial supply of Milkduds and Chihuahuas than those for which I have currently allocated monetary assets.
Well, suggest a date. I’m still not sure of my schedule, but so far any weekend except the second in September is OK
I’m up for it. Most any weekend up through September is okay for me.
BUMP!
Don’t let the Boston Dopefest Thread Die again!!
