So much for the apparent French-Italy alliance; France obviously thinks he is strong enough that he can take whatever centers he likes, diplomacy be damned (he may be right-not criticizing said logic necessarily).
A huge war between France and Germany seems to be brewing; the control of the (formerly) British Isles in the balance. Too bad Germany didn’t get Edinburgh.
Austria gets a reprieve; not only did Germany and Russia not cooperate in taking an unsupported Trieste, but he will get one net build. Russia was oddly timid, going for the sure build from Venice vs. a move into an undefended Budapest.
Poor Turkey-goes CD and loses a center. All is not lost tho, with Russia still on good terms and Austria having to turn and face a charging France; some good diplomacy may get him back into the game, with a chance to build some badly needed fleets. Oddly this may be a good thing for the Sultan in the long run.
Am I mistaken or do the two retreats this fall have no liberties at all, and thus are forced disbands? If so why is there a fall retreats phase?

You’re right, and reading the PlayDiplomacy forums, it appears to be a feature on the wish-list for the programmers to get to when they have the time and/or inclination - for the time being, we wait…
Hmm. Doing some searching there reveals a “finalize” order which, if everybody who can perform orders sends in the finalize command, allows the turn to be processed immediately. Or perhaps that is only for certain games or something?
Too bad Turkey went AWOL-even with every unit holding it’s going to be awhile before anyone is going to take his home centers.
I’ll not add much else other than we now have a solid 2 vs. 2 game going now, where unless someone betrays someone else the game will hinge on who has the best tactics (c.f. Russia and his losing Norway needlessly).
I’ll gladly betray someone for the low low price of three Bartlett pears, a two pound bag of red potatoes, and a Monster energy drink. Either that or this delivered to my door.
I gotta say that if Turkey wants to jump back in here, he could be a real disruptor.
Does anyone besides John DiFool have any perspective on the game?
Once this is over*, I promise to kibitz endlessly about the following Doper Diplomacy game. I have an eye for Dip tactics (if I may say so myself), and I will relish the chance to be a non-combatant disruptor to future games. Although, I must admit the “Chaos” variant is an intriguing game I’d be happy to adjudicate.
*: If all goes well, I will have the weight of being a winner on my resume.
Chaos, 34 players 34 centers-yeah I played that once (as Serbia). Got wiped out in the first year.
Actually I was looking at 1900 (which is not on this server)-the designers bent over backwards to make it balanced and fun (and rectified the absence of the entire North African coastline).
Crap. I think I forgot to put in moves again, and the day ends shortly doesn’t it. Anyone able to enter them for me if the day hasn’t ended yet? I can’t access the site from work.
