I’m intrigued by this, too. Despite what my low post count may imply, I’ve been reading this message board for over a year, and I’m interested in interacting with other Dopers. Columbus is a mere few hours from my home base of Pittsburgh; it’d just be a matter of freeing up that weekend. Please put me down as a tentative.

About a month and a half before the big event, I’ll most likely start a mailing list with all you folks, so we can finalize times and locations. It’ll also help the carpoolers and the hotel-stayers decide on which place has the best rates (hell–you might even be able to get group rates). I’ll keep this thread bumping up from time to time. If you don’t have your e-mail address listed and would like to be on the list, just drop me a line and I’ll make sure to save your addy for later.

I have a convention that weekend, and, since I’m in charge of reservations, I kind of have to be there. I guess I’m not tentative anymore 
Opal, it looks like it’s about 400 miles from DC to Columbus. Call it an 8 to 9 hour drive including pit stops.
Damn, UncleBeer, how slow do you drive? It’s 556 miles, give or take a few yards, from Brian in Raleigh to me in Columbus, and he can make it usually in no more than 8 hours, as long as weather and traffic cooperate. If it helps, I’ve made the trip from here to Georgetown in a Ford Taurus station wagon with six people in it (ever try taking one of THOSE over the hills?) in seven hours. And none of us speed excessively. I can see how a kid might add about an hour to the trip.
No, Nicky won’t be bothersome. There are several underage folks on the list, so we’ll probably be sticking to a few local bar-restaurants. In fact, I figure if you come, I have an exact place in mind for at least one of the nights–a wonderful Mexican place that has a pretty good vegetarian selection. It’s actually adjacent to one of the hotels on that list. And it’s cheap as hell, and I can get coupons for the food, and they sell margaritas by the pitcher. Who can turn this down?
We’ll also end up (I hope) getting adjacent rooms in the hotel, so you can always put him down to bed in one room and then move to the next to hang out with us. That way, he can sleep away from the drunken revelry, but you’ll be right there if he needs you.

I’m in St Louis, so the drive won’t be too bad, but that’s too far in the future to know what my work schedule would be like and I’ve already got my vacation days scheduled for October and can’t change them.
