FUCKERS! This is a great show!
Bump!
So, anyone else see the penultimate episode this week? Awesome stuff. Delroy Lindo continues to amaze me. Loved his line about Harold Washington! And Liam goes totally off the hook…
I almost didn’t want to watch because it just makes me more mad that the show is over. The last scene gave me chills.
Cancelled WTF:mad:
Well, that was a decent enough ending to the show, I guess. I think, if the show were to get a second season by whatever mechanism, Gibbons isn’t in jail for more than an episode – I imagine his lawyers would have a field day with the dirty cop-provided evidence. But it’s fine to leave it like it is, if it must be.
I liked it, but never loved it. Two reasons – (1) Jennifer Beals: I didn’t hate her the way most people seemed to, but she was way too smiley for this role, and (2) the good guys were just too good. Not much gray at all. Their bad behavior was along the lines of minor infractions, not serious transgressions. I suppose making every cop Vic Mackey is going too far, but there has to be some middle ground (as the cops of The Wire demonstrated very nicely).
I think it’s clear the production company got the word about its cancellation before this show was made. They clearly were wrapping up the various storylines rather than setting up for the show’s return. Which, with the show being cancelled, was just as well - we at least got some closure.
One minor nit-pick. When the secretary was taunting Colvin she talked about how she had read Colvin’s file before she got her job and saw that Colvin had no family life. But that wasn’t true - we’ve seen that Colvin was quite close to her sister’s family at the time she was promoted and didn’t break with them until later.
I DVRed the finale, but couldn’t bring myself to watch it yet. As soon as I watch it, it’s OVER! So instead, tonight, I re-watched the penultimate episode. It was even better than the first time I watched it! I’ll watch the final one tomorrow and report back.
This DVD Box Set will definitely be on my Christmas List for later in the year.
Twenty-three hours have passed, and nobody has added to this thread? WTF? I guess it’s a good thing I came back.
Anyway, I watched the finale tonight. Excellent episode. Although I will note that it wasn’t nearly as intense as the previous, penultimate episode. Last week’s installment was a video game, all sound and fury. This week’s was a chess game, all point and counter-point. I don’t mean this as a relative judgement; both are valid approarches, and both were excellent.
I thought the resolution of the story was perfect, especially if one considers the possibility of the show getting picked up by another network. Yes, Gibbons is in the slammer, apparently beaten. But the evidence is shaky, and one could easily imagine him beating it. If this is truly the end, we have closure, but if it isn’t, we are not locked out from moving on with the battle. Good job, producers! I salute you!!
PS - also loved the very last scene, with Theresa in the bar getting picked up for a quickie with an out-of-towner. Last thing I would have expected from a straight-arrow like her! You go, girl!
I finally watched the last 2 episodes. I have to say, they are superb. Lots of twists and turns and bumps.
Apparently time goes by on the show without indication. Wysocki said after his ex-fiance was arrested that he broke up with her a month ago, but that was, like, the previous episode, right?
I’m still lost on how Colvin dating the Federal agent would be a conflict of interest. Is he like the only one?
I’m at least happy they found a way to wrap things up. Almost makes up for being canceled. Almost. I will miss the show.
