Apology to all Straight Dopers I've Offended

Lately I have acted completely out of character: immature, close-minded, rash, etc. and I would like to apologise to anyone I’ve offended by a rude comment, dull-witted statement, etc. I’m really not as horrible of a person as I’ve made myself out to be and I don’t want my words to form a false impression of the way I really am.
Pepperlandgirl, I apologise to you the most, because I’ve read several of your posts and you seem to be an intelligent, creative person.
This isn’t all a bunch of b.s., and if you still think I’m a wretched person, I understand that it’s my fault.

Anyone who can be as brain-dead cute, and a KITH fan at that, is a friend in my book.

Of course, you’ve offended me terribly with the OP.

–Tim

Yes, but what about people I actually made mad? I would just say “screw them” but I genuinely care.

Homer, you’re in love with me, aren’t you?

hahaha! I’m a loser! wooo! oops. that was immature.

Can I feel your yat?

–Tim

And this is bad how?

Feelyat…if you say something silly and out of character, the best thing to do is acknowledge it, and then go on to say interesting things. Message boards can get contentious, but people will seldom carry a grudge unless you continously and egregiously make a jerk of yourself.

So people jumped on you about algebra and such. Just put it behind you and participate intelligently in other threads that interest you. Remember, no one has time to read every thread, so even if you said something really really stupid (which you didn’t, you just said something silly) most people don’t know it. So, take a deep breath, and move on, K?

Is this a twinkee defense? Because if it is, I’m right with you. Those blasted Frappacinos do it to me every time.

Ah, the truth comes out–Homer is just after your yat.

(Psst… What the heck is a “yat”??? Did he mean “yak”? Eww.)

Homer- NO!!!

As for the rest of you-

 You’re all quite cool, not to mention funny. Wooo hoo! I’ve already stopped looking at the stupid thread because it’s not a big deal and certainly isn’t worth worrying about.
Why do so many dopers react to things so viciously?

That is a good question, actually. If I feel like someone’s trying to get in my face, I don’t pull my punches. I suppose we make good friends and good enemies.

MR

I guess you’re a much stronger man than I…especially since I’m not a man. Do you like The Kids In The Hall?

Not sure strength is really the issue…I just don’t like bullshit. Maybe I am just going through one of those self-definition phases…

I once liked Kids in the Hall, back when I watched them. I haven’t seen them in years.

MR

Yes. That makes more sense. I could be ruthless, but I always end up feeling bad about it. I’m extremely sensitive, yes, it must surprise you. I’m always afraid that what I say will end up hurting(or angering) someone, so I try not to say anything that would be considered mean or offensive in any way. But, I suppose that there will always be someone who will take what I say in the wrong context, so I might as well just speak my mind. I’ll work on it.

As a group we also enjoy calling people out on prejudice, unsubstantiated crap, and other kinds of bad behavior. Often the words will be sharper than the real emotions.

We just like to hear ourselves talk.

MR

One prejudice that people haven’t been called on nearly enough is the prejudice against teenagers. Just because I’m 16 doesn’t mean I’m an immature punk who doesn’t understand life. So I say immature things sometimes! Everyone does!! Hmm…maybe I should save this one for the Pit

Which is why no one has flamed you for being 16. When you start saying stupid shit, you will get flamed.

MR

Apology accepted. I’m sending the rest of this sappy patter to MPSIMS.

Lemur866 nailed it when he pointed out that generally speaking we’re only wary of those who ** continually ** agitate and annoy us.

Everyone’s allowed an occasional rant or nasty word. After all we’re only human.

I thought the Chewbacca defense would be more interesting here…

True, but I can never resist an unfunny and obscure easy one-liner.
