Apparently, Frank Drebin had a daughter [TV show "Angie Tribeca"]

I just saw a few episodes of a new show on TBS, Angie Tribeca, and I swear the show is 90% Police Squad! and 10% Sledge Hammer. The first season was a 25 hour/10 episode marathon on January 17th and 18th, and the 2nd season begins already on the 25th of this month! The show has great running gags, an A-list guest list, a wonderful cast(I love Alfred Molina as their eccentric resident scientist) and Rashida Jones really stands out as the title character.

I honestly had no idea this was a comedy. The ads I saw for it were all very vague.

I know. I got caught up in the second hour of the 25 hour marathon, which consisted of episodes of the first season, broken up by live scenes of a party thrown by the cast and crew.

I’m not up for 25 hours of anything but my wife started partway in and wound up hooked.

You may say that, but this stuff is cocaine comedy, made for binge-watching.

It wasn’t really 25 hours of new episodes, there were only 10 total episodes, so less than 5 hours of programming, repeated several times. And I mostly didn’t bother with any of the in-between stuff.

As long as you know going in it’s going to be corny, “Police Squad”-style humor (but with slightly higher production values), it’s pretty funny.

I had a hell of a time placing the face of her fiancé, Sgt. Pepper, in the pilot episode, until I realized it was James Franco. BTW, the people that named the characters in this show might be related to the people that named the Newcomers from Alien Nation.

We were maybe 10 minutes into the first episode when I said “This is Police Squad!”

We loved it! The sight gags, the character names…I really need to go back and watch all the episodes again to see what I missed the first time through. I can’t wait for “Season 2”

Did you know the star of the show is the daughter of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton?

From the ads I thought this was a drama as well and I thought that it was interesting that Rashida Jones was going that way. I was interested in seeing it before and I am now more interested but I don’t have cable, so waiting for Netflix I will be.

I guess you didn’t see the promo with the dog driving the car

Oh man. That is right up my alley. Unfortunately my service provider doesn’t include TBS at all.

Not necessarily-episodes are available for viewing here.

What’s so funny about that? Sgt. Hoffman has seniority over Sgt. D.J. Tanner, so he gets to drive.

I watched. It’s nowhere near as dense-with-jokes as Police Squad was, but it’s a worthy effort. And as Czarcasm noted in the OP, it has some A-list guest stars (a tribute either to Steve Carell’s power or to his ability to inspire friendship, or both).

I did.

but that’s not important right now.

I liked that they beeped Sgt Hoffman when he was swearing.

I taped all ten episodes on my DVR and then watched the first three episodes or so on Monday. But I didn’t think it was very funny, so I deleted the whole thing from my DVR.

I’m going to have to give this another shot. I tried watching it, but it just didn’t connect with me. Police Squad was the first thing I thought of, but it just seemed to be lacking something that PS had.
FTR, without hyperbole, I think Police Squad was one of the greatest creative works since the beginning of time.

Surely you can’t be serious.

I know. I know.
