Applegate appreciation.

I just want to say I think she’s a pretty talented comedic actress.

She was very funny on Married With Children, and if you watched that, you might have thought she was a one-trick pony like she’d go on to play in the ditzy slut role in whatever second rate teen comedy was coming down the pike. But she probably has a good agent, because she got that role in “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead” which was pretty funny. She showed she has a feel for joke delivery beyond the MWC shtick.

She was solid in “Just Visiting” which I liked (and apparently only I liked).

She’s now in Anchorman, so I look forward to that.

But, I thought her character as Monica’s sister was hilarious (I also think Anniston is a pretty talented actress – particularly comedically). I’d pay to see them do a movie together. [“she put on 15 pounds.” “hips and thighs?” “ass and face.”]

I guess I saw her in Mars Attacks, but I don’t recall that movie very well.

That’s it. Just giving some props to Applegate, whose work I’ve enjoyed for about 15-20 years now.

Two things:

Her name is Christina Applegate.

And she played Rachel’s sister, not Monica’s.

Did anyone claim otherwise?

I think I’ve seen about 20 episodes of that show. I always mix them up.

I know who Phoebe is though.

It just doesn’t look very polite to refer to her only by her last name, I’m sure is what GuanoLad meant.

I thought her NBC sitcom was lame, but she and the Latino fellow who co-starred with her were both good in it. And she’s really, really pretty.

I think she’s gorgeous. I’ll flip on Married with Children just to see what she’s wearing.

Not a huge fan of MWC, but I am becoming a fan of hers. I saw her on Conan and she was a blast. They played off each other really well, and it looked like they were actually friends (or at least should be) off-camera. It was a lot of fun to watch.

I looooovvvvve Christina Applegate. I used to think she was really ditzy like the Married With Children character, but she’s actually quite articulate. Damn, she was hot. She hasn’t aged as well as I hoped; her face looked kind of strange when they did close-ups on the Daily Show, like she was wearing a lot of makeup to hide something. But she’s still a babe. Too bad a lot of movies she’s been in have been dogs; I don’t think that’s really her fault.

Exactly. And the character the played on friends was kind of airheaded, but in a different way than Kelly Bundy. It shows she can really inhabit a role naturally, even if it is a comedic role – I’m of the opinion that its generally more difficult to do comedy well than drama.

Agreed.

Agreed, also. But the fact that she still gets stuff is a testament to her abilities. Where’s Tara Reid going to be 10 years from now if she loses her looks? Where are any of the other women who played teens in 1980’s sitcoms?

Me neither. Hopefully, she has a chance to shine in Anchorman.

Are you sure? I could have sworn it was what’s-her-name. Its’ on the tip of my tongue. Maybe I’m thinking of a different episode.

I think you’re thinking of Reese Witherspoon.

If you get a chance, rent yourself Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. Incredibly stupid title, but pretty decent movie. Prior to seeing this, I had only seen Christina in MWC.

Plus, you also get to see a pre-X-Files David Duchovny and the office bitch’s boyfriend.

Well crap. I think just posted in the latest Trek thread what I was going to post here.
So… to even the score: Despite the horrible last 30 seconds of Season III Enterprise, I’m looking forward to what Manny Coto can do with the franchise. No need to kill it just because the last owners were stupid. When done right, it’s still a very viable franchise.

:dubious:

There’s always work at the Post Office

The latest Rob Schneider movie, of course!

I only saw the sitcom once, but I got a kick out of it. The creator was from around here somewhere and actually went six months without talking. I do wish they’d been creative enough to design their own bar, instead of using the stock sitcom bar.

If you blinked, you missed her. She played the girlfriend of the brother who was in the marines. I don’t think she even had a closeup - there was a scene where she kissed him goodbye as he got on the bus, and that was the last we saw of her.

I disagree with you about her agent, because Babysitter and Just Visiting were two poorly-reviewed, not very successful movies, and in Mars Attacks she was practically an extra. Maybe Anchorman will turn things around for her (maybe she fired that agent ;)).

Some people say that it takes a lot of intelligence to play someone of lesser intellect in a convincing or funny way. If true, she must be very talented, because she was VERY good in that role.

Not only that, but with only a last name it could have been referring to former meat packer extraordinaire Colleen Applegate.

That’s it! I was actually thinking Kirsten Dunst.

To the topic at hand: she was pretty cute on The Daily Show, but she’s definately starting to show her age, just like Lisa Kudrow.

She had a good role in The Sweetest Thing. I agree with the assessment of her comedic talent, as well as the other assessments of her assets.
