Jennifer Anniston

I would like to know why this woman keeps getting Emmy nominations. I don’t think she is a brilliant actress. The other girls on FRIENDS are just as good, if not better then her.

What is the fascination of Jennifer Anniston?

She is incredibly attractive, much more so than her co-stars. Plus there’s just something about her facial expression that just grabs your attention.

Plus, she has FLAIR!

What’s the mystery? She’s very funny on a funny and incredibly popular show. And she’s HOT.

I think it takes more wit to play Phobee on FRIENDS then it does to play Rachel.

Why aren’t the other girls getting emmy nominations?

I think Courtney is just as pretty.

IMHO, she’s a much better comical actress than Courtney Cox, and she has a wider range than Lisa Kudrow. Monica and Phoebe are much less “varied”. No doubt this has something to do with the way the characters are written (so the credit doesn’t entirely go to Aniston alone), but I think the fact that’s she’s just a more versatile actress (even within one role) helps a lot.

I don’t think she’s untalented, but I don’t see the “attractive” at all. She has an odd, lumpy face, like she keeps her laundry in there or something.

With all the nominations Everybody Likes Raymond seems to have got, it should be clear that talent has nothing to do with it. Nor does looks. Maybe money or powerful boyfriends come into it.

All in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. Perhaps it’s a male thing. I agree that Rachel’s character has a lot more range than the other two, who seem a bit one-dimensional.

Even magazine covers perpetuate the attraction to her by printing her on the cover. She is NOT all that!

There are better actresses that could grace the covers of magazines. Women who are better talented. Look at Meryl Streep. She is a much better actress. Talk about range!

It’s my underwear.

I think she is beautiful because she is NOT perfect. I love her “odd” face.
Also, i really enjoyed her performance in The Good Girl.

She got a lot of publicity for her relationship with Brad Pitt. So a good publicist perhaps?

Here we go again.

I don’t think Meryl Streep is very talanted. She’s good for crying on cue but not much else. She has an astonishingly long list of really crappy movies to her credit and her best work was done 20 years ago and earlier.

Of contemporary actresses, if we’re talking range, the Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett both go a very long way. They’re prolly my favorties right now.

And re: Anniston. If we just look at her character in Friends, and compare her with Cox and Kudrow, she’s miles better. She has excellent comedic timing and can be quite subtle, not something I would credit Cox of being. Kudrow is good at protraying the quirky Phobe, but has no debt. Cox is funny when she’s being hysterical (or at least some people find it funny), but never in any other way. Anniston manages to be good looking, funny and she can convey depth. And frankly, when it comes to the Emmys, it’s not like there are a lot of good comedy on tv right now, so the competition isn’t all that hard.
As for her acting skills, I’ve seen her in quite a few smaller movies and she is a good actress. Office Space and The Good Girl show her ability. She’s not in the league of Blanchett, but certainly in the same field as… Meg Ryan. And way more accomplished than Julia Roberts or Cameron Diaz, who always fall flat on their diminutive asses when trying to do dramatic stuff.

I also respect that she tends to do a small movie, during the hiatus every year, and not go for the big blockbuster crap. She could easily get those roles, but she’s making money from ‘Friends’, and it seems like she’s flexing her acting muscles on smaller stuff.
I predict Oscar™ nomination before she turns 40.

I agree that it’s what she’s shown. You can see from the films she’s done that she can do drama and comedy, and both Cox and Kudrow (who has a bad rap with me because I hate vapid characters) seem to lack that range altogether.

<gag> An Oscar nomination? NO WAY!

Has anyone seen her in Bruce Almighty? How was that movie?

I think no matter what role she plays - - she is always the same character. I see no depth to her.

I agree Julia Roberts sucks! She laughs EXACTLY the same way in every one of her movies. Blah

I suggest you rent The Good Girl, and then check back with us, Isabelle.

[hijack]Did anyone notice that Matthew Perry got an Emmy nod, but not for Friends but his guest shot on West Wing!?!?

At this point, Courtney Cox is the only friend to not get an Emmy nod for the show. The only winners have been Aniston & Kudrow, and they both won for the seasons where their characters weren’t pregnant–something that won’t happen to Cox/Rachel.

With Scrubs getting the big ol’ shaft, here’s hoping Curb Your Enthusiasm racks 'em up come September.[/hijack]

One could argue that your mistake is looking neck-up instead of neck-down.

I saw the Good Girl and thought it stunk. She plays the same character in each of her movies. When I heard that the Academy was thinking of nominating her for an award for that flick I about gagged.

Now don’t get me wrong I like her I just don’t think she deserves all the attention she gets.

When Friends first started Courtney Cox got the attention (anyone remember the ads for the show the summer before it debuted? They were all in lingere and shorts pretending to be sexy and Cox was sort of the one out front), then Lisa Kudrow and when Aniston became entangled with Brad Pitt she captured the spotlight.

My personal opinion? Aniston is a starlet, Kudrow is an actress. Cox is somewhere inbetween.
