Cat adopting will have to wait Sunny and Doggio. We found another half dead mouse in the kitchen , so it will have to wait until Moonday or so to make sure the cat doesn’t get a hold of a poisoned mouse.
We don’t have to worry about the dog getting one, he is oblivious to everything.
There’s a cat at the shelter named Wind who looks like my old Stormy cat. The poor thing has been there for a year almost. A new one named Loki, who has the most grumpy expression on his face. A grumpy cat would fit in quite well here. I think it’s the innocent looking ones that suck you in and only show their true colors after you’re hooked.
One of the local supermarkets accepts ticket restaurant cards, one of my benefits at work. Originally, TR were paper tickets which you could use to pay for meals: if the ticket was worth more you didn’t get change, if it was less you had to add the rest, you could only use it in restaurant and at lunchtimes. There are many people, from night shift to those who simply prefer their own food, for whom this wasn’t that much of a benefit. The cards are MasterCard and can be used in many other ways but specific stores still need to have joined the program. So, in any case, I can pay for my groceries (and my gas, that supermarket also has cheap gas) with the benefits card. Yay.
I’m now officially in the “well, ok, we can’t even call you overweight” BMI range, after a loss of some 15kg since I started this job. 5 more kg to go but damn, it feels nice to be floating in my pants The last three years were hell on my weight; other health indices still came out too nice for my doctors’ taste (they couldn’t tell me anything but “you should lose weight”) but health risks aside I wasn’t feeling good with myself.
Stoopit weather continues. Today, they promise 57° and partly cloudy - a bit below normal, but tolerable. Tomorrow night, a low of 26° and chance of snow. NOT amused! We had some crazy downpours last night that lasted only a few minutes and in conjunction with sunset peeking under the low edge of the clouds, resulted in weird light effects. At least I don’t have to water the new grass today.
But TGIF. When the boss gave me that gawd-awful huge model to make into a drawing, I’d commented on how long it took to load, etc. His response “That should slow you down!” I just need to make sure I’ve got something lined up for Moanday when I get it, since he doesn’t show up for about 90 minutes after I do. I still can’t wrap my head around why someone would be OK with leaving at 5 when they could leave at 3:30! Non-morning people are strange creatures.
When we lived in Jax, we had a snow of about 1/2" with accompanying icy roads. The body shops did quite well, despite everything melting before noon. Teh Stoopit was strong in that city.
Sunny, I’m not saying anything you don’t already know, but have a plan (or two or three) on getting the hell out of there with you and yours FAST if something bad goes down…that does not sound like a stable situation and with the number of guns in the U.S. …just be careful, ok?
Firday and I’m taking the afternoon off, since I have only three weeks left and I should be goofing off at least a little bit. Like others, supposed to be cooling today, in the 50’s tomorrow morning when I resume my fruitless pursuit of 10 y.o. soccer players…just hope it doesn’t hurt as much as last week.

For the bad news, I need to go to the car dealer & buy some of those one-time use plastic “screws” that hold the wheel well in place. I need new ones because my headlight is out. Stoopit design. In a normal car, you open up the hood & do it in < one minute.
Any bets on how much more (percent-wise) a bulb is at the dealer than @ Manny, Moe, & Jacks?
[/QUOTE]
A plain bulb is around five bucks, on up to $20 for the “fancy” options.
Check at the auto parts store for the plastic screws - they’re probably universal, or at least replaceable with universal ones.
If you follow Pit threads, you’ll eventually realize that the old style of being able to pop the hood, reach in and swap bulbs in 60 seconds is becoming abnormal. Even my 11 year old truck has hidden screws. At least there’s enough room in the wheel well that I don’t need to take the tire off.
My '97 Aerostar van, while not as bad as vehicles these days, still required a torx screwdriver to remove the frame around the headlights. That’s just mean to people who figured a set of flat and Philips screwdrivers were enough.
At the risk of cursing my car, we haven’t had to replace any headlights yet, so I have no idea what the Hyundai requires. Someday, we’ll find out.
Boss just came by to let us know what to expect with our ISO audit next week. I suggested we all just say “No speek eeenglish” but I have the advantage of being able to plead ignorance, as I’ve been here less than a month. It won’t work for the next audit, but I’ll take advantage of it this time.
Howdy from Ye Olde Hometowne Liberry! I lurve Jawja’s intarliberry deal. All I had to do was type in my liberry ID and voila!
First, I have not read anything but I promise to attempt. Sis is comin’ around. When I got here Wednesday she was on a ventilator (as I expected) with hand restraints to keep her from yankin’ the tube out which is SOP. The restraints were kinda loose but not loose enough for her to move her hands up to her mouth. She was pretty unresponsive but conscious. I squeezed her hand and said “I’m here,” and I got a squeeze back. She would open her eyes from time to time. I got one rise that day when I called her buy the childhood nickname which I as a dutiful big brother gave her, “guinea pig.” Her eyes opened and I got a definite stinkeye! Yesterday was better, we had hoped she would come off the ventilator then but it was felt that it would be best to leave it in as she had some fluid build up on her lungs. She was given a ton o’ liquids on Monday needles to say to flush out her system. She was given lasic (?) yesterday to encourage her to pee and lose more liquids.
Today, the ventilator came off this mornin’. YAY!!! They also untied the restraints. A little while age they removed the oxygen mask thing (in place to make sure her oxygen levels remained good) and she spoke a little bit. Da bear had tears in his eyes. It was like hearin’ her speak ever so softly with a raspy voice was the best sound I had ever heard. So that’s what it is right now. I am stayin’ here until I know what’s up next, probably rehab and other stuff like that.
OK, that’s it for now. I’ll try to be back soon as I can. Thanks for all the well wishes, prayers, etc.
Oh Swampy, I didn’t know all this was happening. Best wishes to you and your family. Glad she’s improving. {{{hugs}}}
Today is a sit in the dark day, and wish the dog would stop breathing so loudly.
On the plus side, daughter comes back from her week long Yosemite trip (we went up early to drop her off). I had a wonderful time with her, while I was there. I’ve missed her so much this week. Can’t wait to see her.
While in Yosemite, it became rather obvious that I can’t do a very tiny fraction of the things I used to be able to do. Mist trail to the top of Vernal Falls? Nope. Hike to the top of the Lower Yosemite Falls, or the top? My level seems to be 1 mile loops, on flat land, to look at vista points. Arg! So I have resolved to fix this. I want to do the things with my kids that I used to do. I am beginning my own flab to fit program. I will climb to the top of waterfalls again, by gum! Part 2 - I will start riding horses again. I have ridden my entire life, until shortly after the kids came along. I miss it. I will get in shape and start riding again. So there universe!!
Sari any news on the cat hunt? If you weren’t so far away, I’d get you one of the neighbor’s kittens…

With LEDs, we will be changing lights a lot less often.

BITE YOUR TONGUE! LEDs and HID lights are one of the worst menaces on the road today, with their shimmering, flickering, dazzling and blinding.
Meanwhile on the DH front, as I predicted, approval for the new drug came in just after he started radiation treatments. It should be soon enough that we can stop the rads without ill effect. We’re looking at starting the new drug on Tuesday.
**gotti **- yay! Here’s hoping the new drug is a winner!
swampy - you remain in my thoughts. Glad to hear your sis is doing better. You need to give her one of your stern talkings-to!
We went to the Texas Roadhouse for supper. Not my first choice, but I let **FCD **pick. It wasn’t bad, but my ribs are better. Now we’re home in the veg mode. Cold night ahead - glad we still have pellets.
Yeah, what rose said. Best wishes to your sister, swampy. Be strong.
Watched the Masters during the afternoon (only Golf tournament I make an effort to catch). Otherwise not much. Dinner was some BLT’s with Mayo which was good. Now to go forth and browse the internet.
