Despite all the reporting about ISIS and Islamic terrorism, there seems to be little factual info regarding the fate of Christians in the ME. Countries like Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, etc., have substantial Christian communities. Egypt has a large Christian population (Coptic Christians). My question: are these people being murdered and harassed in all ME countries?
If this is the case, why hasn’t the UN intervened? If the USA (which gives aid to Iraq and factions in Syria) knows about such persecution, why don’t we demand that it stop? ISIS has reportedly executed Christians (for refusing to convert to Islam); are there any reliable numbers of how many such executions have taken place?
Why should we care about the Sunnis in ISIS killing Christians and more than we care about them killins Shiite Muslims or Yazidis or other Sunnis or anyone else?
Any particular reason that the UN should intervene on behalf of Christians in the Middle East who are being harassed and killed, even though people of other faiths (and those of no faith) are also being harassed and killed?
No, not all.
It depends on what you consider “reliable”. Most of the Christians tend to become refugees rather than martyrs. Cite.
And ISIS is hardly the only persecutor of Christians in the world.

Since the OP asks several questions that are basically political, let’s move this to Great Debates.

There is at least one ME country where Christians aren’t being harassed and murdered, and that would be Israel. Not all ME countries are controlled by ISIS and their allies.
It’s generally something some conservative Christians talk a lot about. I think they want to show how scripture is being fulfilled by it saying Christians will be persecuted. Pat Robertson raves on about this all the time in his broadcasts and books, and quite often is pointing the finger at Muslims.
No, more Muslims are actually being killed. We either step in and stop killings or don’t, but let’s stop treating minorities as more deserving of being saved. Christians, Jews, etc are not worth more in life than Muslims.
So, Ralph, any plan to return to the thread you started?
Yes. it seems that Christians are the target of much violence. I find it interesting that little notice is made of this.
What goes around comes around?
What are you basing this on? There is much violence in the region. Christians are dying, but so are members of other sects. Why do you think we should be more concerned about this one group?

Is there reason to believe that only those who are violent themselves are becoming the victims of violence?
Follow up question: do you intend to read the thread you started?
If that were true, the whole history of the Middle East and of the world would be radically different.

That’s also true of Iran, neither of which has a good record when it comes to treating Christians well. In fact Christians have been flooding out of both countries.
Palestinian Christians been leaving both Israel and the Occupied territories in such numbers that there are now more Palestinian Christians living in Chile than in “Palestine”.
Sadly, religious minorities in just about all Middle Eastern countries have been pretty terrible. Iran and Israel, where they face discrimination but not mass slaughter have amongst the better reputations, as, until recently, was Syria under the Assads.
No kidding.
