They’re magically delicious.
Ooooh, I think that’s the first time anyone’s ever told me a Suffolk accent is sexy
English accents: Sexy
Irish accents: Sexier
Scottish accents: Sexiest
Even if you can’t understand them? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GCghRuXs80
I have these friends. . .the wife is English, educated in Scotland; the husband is Iranian, likewise educated in Scotland. Their sons are both married, but both have these incredible mixed accents that would make me do either one of them, anywhere, anytime!
Oh,hell yes. British, Scottish, Irish. They’re all hot. Give me a lovely Fiona or Brigid and my toes curl up into my heels.
Yes.
edited to add: MOST accents are sexy. Ironically I am from the South and I find a heavy Southern drawl quite irritating.
Yes, exactly. In my experience this is often the case with British people, not so much with Americans.
The most adorable thing ever is Stephen Fry speaking German. You just want to cuddle him and pinch his cheek.
I find English and Irish accents sexy. Although I have enough Brit friends now that the novelty is wearing off a little.
Oh, yeah. It’s not what you say, baby, it’s how you say it.
I find it really, really amusing that the thread has become what the title implies it to mean. However, I am also curious:
Non-native English-speaking Dopers: How do you find an american accent when someone is speaking your native language?
British accent?
Canadian accent?
Australian accent?
Repeat for any other native English speakers I may have forgotten.
Gestalt
I went to YouTube and searched out a bunch of videos involving Yorkshire accents.
Mysteriously, I seem to have misplaced my pants.
I can never, never visit the UK.
If it’s Jane Birkin (caution: music), I melt every time.
I’m told my accent is sexy, but I was born in England, raised in the US, and have no idea what my accent is these days, other than it gets stronger as I get angrier.
Back when I spoke Japanese fluently, I was told I spoke it with a Kobe accent, which makes sense, since I studied in Kobe for a year. There was also one notable occaision when I spoke Japanese with my best imitation of an Australian accent. Yes, I was sober at the time and there was a reason for it; I’ve just forgotten the reason. I think the Japanese people listening were amused.
I don’t find English accents sexy per se. If a guy I think is hot already has one, okay, it goes with the package. But I don’t really like any regional/“foreign” accents. I prefer a flat American “non-accent-broadcaster-style accent” (that is, to me, no discernable accent).
I’m assuming you people are all speaking about MEN with English/Irish/Scottish accents. 'Cause I can sorta see that.
Women, not so much. Unless they happen to be saying “Aowwww, sor, I’m desairving a right jolly good bare-bottom spankin.”’ (which they often are, according to my magazines.)
What dialect thread?
OK, EVERYONE
The thread about how english-speakers sound when speaking other languages is here:
Or, “naughty Zoot! You must punish her! And then me too!” or words to that effect.
