Are gas prices down for you?

I just paid $2.61 this morning at US Gas in Burlington, NJ. There is also a CITGO about a mile away selling Regular at $2.62.

Yeah, I had to do a double-take when I passed Safeway on my way home from work yesterday and saw $2.99 on the sign. I filled my tank there just a couple weeks ago and paid around $3.50.

There is also talk of Saudi Arabia keeping crude prices low to use as a political tool against Russia and Iran. Saudi Arabia has some of the lowest extraction costs in the world, and they can make a nice profit at prices that are not so good for their political rivals.

Silicon Valley checking in-- prices are down a lot. To about $3.25 for regular. But we have a new tax kicking in next year in CA, so that may offset things.

$2.63 at Sam’s Club with membership. (Alabama)

Odd that when gas prices go up there is always talk about “gas company conspiracies” and other crap… but no discussion as to what conspiracy causes the price to fall.

“Oil company overlords”, good one TriPolar.

I know a “farmer” (a banker who owns a tractor) who has gas tanks on his property and fills them with off-road diesel “for the tractor”. Coincidentally he and his wife drive diesel vehicles. He’s trying to decide when to fill his tanks.

It crept down to $2.78 for me with my BJ’s membership (NE Ohio). The prices are still starting to creep back up.

Here’sa five year chart of the US benchmark gasoline futures prices.

$2.79 a gallon at most local stations in Austin, TX.

OMG!! This ^^^^ every day!

driving me nuts…however the drive is with gas at 2.57 a gallon as of this morning in Arlington (mid city to Dallas and Ft. Worth)

$2.51/Gallon right now at Fuel One in Edison, NJ!

Prices seem to be dropping precipitously here. Pretty amazing.

Except for the fact that the “gas prices are manipulated before elections” isn’t true, as shown by the data, I could believe it as well. But a nice conspiracy theory is just too fun to let go, right?

(Click on “download data series” to the top-left of the chart for monthly retail gas prices in the US since 1990. The chart is an Excel spreadsheet, but even non-Excel users can upload it to Google drive/docs, whatever Apple uses, etc to see the data.)

And for those who say this drop is unprecedented, in 2008 the price of gasoline went from $4.11/gal in July to $1.75 in December. Of course, there were extenuating circumstances… Actually, the biggest 1-month drop in prices occurred in November 2008 when they plummeted by 90 cents… but it didn’t really help the “ruling elite”, did it

$2.40 this morning.

Still dropping here as well. $2.47 a gallon now at Fuel One in Edison NJ.

They’ve dropped in the UK - used to be we’d pay £1.29 or thereabouts per litre, now it’s down to £1.24.

If it’s a mid-term election conspiracy, well done to them for making prices lower in the UK as well. Thanks Obama / The Illuminati / The Gay Agenda / The Jews / Lizardmen!

Way down where I am.

Just paid $3.00 at Sam’s Club with my discount applied.

A few days ago we went by the local QuickiMart and it was 2.55. Went by 2 hours later and it was 2.49. See this all the time.

A week+ ago I paid 1.98[sup]9[/sup] after using my loyalty card rewards.

A corner convenience store down the road was $2.13 yesterday (west Houston). I think that was “cash card” discount.
