Are men in general actually worred about this?

The OP’s correspondent might also have lingering memories of a 1998 episode of The Outer Limits titled “Lithia”. Keith David awakes from suspended animation to find a mid-21st-century world populated entirely by women.

They’re not universally pleased about his arrival.

No more than usual, we’ve been told we’re not needed for at least 35 years…

H.L. Mencken : “A misogynist is a man who hates women as much as women hate one another.”

A combination of men putting them on pedestals, the desire of women in general to be seen as nice, misogynists sneering at women as weak and soft, and feminist propaganda about how all nastiness is men’s fault, I think.

My personal belief is that mixed sex organizations are superior. Each gender has it’s strong points and it’s flaws when taken as a group ( whether they are inborn or cultural doesn’t matter ). When mixed together, those strengths and weaknesses tend to cancel each other out to a degree; when concentrated in monosexual environment they amplify each other.

Me, too.

If I didn’t have my husband around, who would scratch my back? And if he didn’t have me around, who would scratch his? Just this evening, he had me look at and remove a zit on the back of his neck. He sure wouldn’t ask just anyone to do that!

Me too. How could it not be?!

I can’t help thinking that the only men who would sincerely believe that are the ones who don’t accomplish anything more than sperm deposit in the first place.

Rereading this thread, I’m reminded of a Discworld footnote that mentions an all female tribe that kidnaps men “for the purposes only men can serve.” The men don’t last long though; all that moving furniture and hauling things off the top shelf wears you down.

What, that women will choose the vomiting and general unpleasantness of pregnancy without even getting the sex first? A man would have to be spectacularly bad in bed to worry about that, I think.

Far more troubling is the fact that, cloning or not, it’s apparently nigh-impossible for a woman to find a man with an ounce of self-esteem.

…O…k.

We’ve learned a lot about you today, Der Trihs. Now tell me, how do you feel about your mother?

See Barbara Ehrenreich’s 2004 change of heart.

She’s been dead for years. And that scenario was from a book, which is why it popped into my head.

Frankly, I’m most disturbed by the notion that certain information must be withheld from women, lest they become dangerous. Who thinks like that?

Paranoid control freaks.

Haven’t lost any sleep over this looming threat

Shouldn’t women be worried about them being cloned and men wouldn’t need women?

Lord knows I’m hardly the man to line up alongside Der, but the search term you want for that virus thingy is “Y: The Last Man”. A kid your age should be better versed in contemporary comix culture.

I’ve been married more than ten years, and if b happens, then a is dang sure going to happen.

Another reference to the virus thing, but from the other direction, is Herbert’s “The White Plague”, but of course that’s a story about a madman geneticist who creates a virus to kill all women so it doesn’t count. =P

More to the point, I suppose it counts less because the perp intended to kill all women in England, Ireland and Libya because he blamed those countries for the loss of his wife to an IRA bomb - not because all women are evil and dangerous, and the world would be better off without them.

Except for a few female serial killers, I’m not sure how many cases there are of women killing men simply because they are men. The reverse is not entirely difficult to find. But maybe that’s just feminist propaganda!

Closer to the OP, I’ve read some stories lately about using impoverished women as surrogates that are just a tad too close to Atwood’s A Handmaid’s Tale for comfort.

ETA Never heard of the book- Malacandra clears it up a bit.

I think soon women won’t be necessary for cloning. Plunk your cell cluster into a sow and wait.
