Are you a coffee pooper?

I can’t imagine being an “every couple of days pooper.”

Coffee doesn’t exactly MAKE me poop, but it certainly accelerates the process; I generally have to visit the can within a half hour of my first cup in the morning.

Other cups at other times of day have no similar effect.

Pepsi will cause the same reaction, but you’d have to drink anywhere from 3 to 8 times the volume to get the same level of caffeine (Pepsi = 3.12 mg/ounce, coffe is anywhere from 10-200 mg/ounce depending on type and brewing method.) In fact, brewed decaf coffee has as much or more caffeine as Pepsi.

Really, there are so many good cites detailing the laxitive effects of caffeine I just linked to the Google page. Take your pick, they all say the same. To be sure, other ingredients in coffee may compound the effect but there is no doubt about the caffeine/poopage link.

No, I’m not. But I came in to ask if anyone has ever heard of a beer pooper. Because I knew a guy who claimed in all seriousness he was.

I’m thinking it’s the hot water.

If I drink a lot of beer the night before, it usually gets my system going the next day. But coffee does it within a couple of hours.

I usually do if I have a regular drip brew in the middle of the day (I am an afternooner). But stronger, espresso based drinks don’t necessarily do this.

Why coffee and poop have a special relationship.

I’m surprised this thread made it this long without this Oatmeal infocomic.

All that artificial sweetener garbage has laxative properties, too. Could explain the effect of the hazelnut creamer.

People occasionally ask me for advice about constipation, now I know to recommend coffee.

That can certainly contribute.

I’ve just gone through another colonoscopy and during the prep, I’ve found that if my beverage of choice is hot broth, that’ll often bring on another “run NOW” episode when things were otherwise slowing down.

Ought oh I just had a morning cup of coffee after I had already gone to the bathroom. I now have proof that if you don’t completely finish doing number #2 … the morning coffee will do the rest.

All old men need to beware of every fart after drinking their morning coffee
