By Licentious Ectomorph’s standard, since this did, in fact cause me to laugh out loud and wish To Get To Know [You] Better, you can no longer be a charter member of this club. I, on the other hand, spent the first six months of my last job fervently wondering if any one of my co-workers even knew my name .
Hey, can I sit with you guys? They don’t want me over there.
Please?
People are not wanting to meet me in droves.
But that’s okay. They’re just intimidated by my beauty and intelligence. It’s understandable.
No way of really knowing, as vanity searches are stymied by the persistent “JRDelerious” misspelling.
See, here are two of the people I forgot to mention. Arien, I enjoy your posts in the various Tolkien threads and **EddyTeddyFreddy ** is one of the saner people in many of the pit threads that brings a little levity too them. Sorry, I need to drag you both over to the other thread.
Jim
Yea, I guess you’re right. First time that’s ever happened, come to think of it.
Come on over!
Having been a member of the SDMB for 7 years, I have formulated what I believe are the characteristics of the typical, middle-of-the-bell-curve SDMB member:
- Smart (high IQ)
- Logical
- Witty
- Sarcastic
- Critical
- Educated
- Liberal
- Politically Correct
I think I possess some of these traits. But I fall way outside the 3-sigma of the bell curve in many respects. I think the thing that drives most members bonkers is how politically incorrect I am:
- I own quite a few guns (evil assault rifles, .50 BMG, etc.)
- I started a militia group (see this and this).
- I hunt Bambi.
- I shoot cats that come on our property, then throw them in the burn barrel.
- I think fat people are fat because they don’t have the discipline to eat right.
- I think most chronically poor people are lazy.
- I don’t give a crap what anyone else thinks of my views.
Is it any surprise I don’t have any friends here? Hell, I don’t care. I’m not here to make friends.
Now if you want a *real * shocker, just meet me in person sometime. Or just ask ShibbOleth (we’ve met). I come across exactly the opposite in person; I’m quiet, very friendly, introverted, geeky, and shy.
Answers to questions 1, 2, and 3: No.
I don’t think anyone knows who I am, or remembers any of my posts after they scroll to the next one. I’m totally forgettable.
But my cats love me. That’s why there’s cat hair all over this post.
I think I belong here, if indeed I belong anywhere.
What Exit? does not display tact. Just sayin’
1)Answer to your 3 questions: No,no,no.
2)I will obey your rules.
I would’ve posted earlier, but I didn’t want to kill the thread prematurely.
I wish to vote for a disqualification of both EddyTeddyFreddy and Inigo Montoya. Both are posters who stand out for me, and if I’d even considered posting in that other thread, I would’ve mentioned their names.
But I want to add my own name to the membership. Sometimes I wonder why I start any thread ever.
True, sorry.
Jim
No, no, and no. The only poster who ever indicated they knew me (besides my kid) turned out to be a sock.
Now wait, I need a clarification. I was mentioned in that other thread, but not as one someone wanted to know better, but as someone, someone already knows and someone wishes to know less, rather than more.
What I want to know, is knowing someone, who knows me, in the want to know thread preclude me from the nobody want’s to know thread?
Just thought I’d ask.
Aw, thanks, What Exit?. And I barely had to fish for that!
And of course, the compliment is reciprocal.
I recognize most of the names in this thread, and I’d like to know everyone. But, who wants to know me? Boo this thread, hooray beer!
1) Are you overcome by nostalgia for the time when people wanted to get to know you better?
No, not really. I’ve seen that people who meet me in person sometimes want to get to know me better, but I guess my scintillating personality just doesn’t come across on the 'net.
2) Was there ever a time when people wanted to get to know you better? It’s been a while. Answer to number 1 would probably fit here too…
3) Do you think there ever will be a time when people want to get to know you better?
I’m not holding my breath.
Meh. I’m comfortable with not making the popularity rolls. There’s a certain freedom to not being popular and not having your every post scrutinized.
That is, until you misspell a word or make some other kind of screw-up in your post.
Did I misspell anything?
Well, I wasn’t mentioned in the other thread, so I guess I belong here.
Funny. In real life, I’m usually pretty outgoing. I love to talk, ham it up, share opinions, and so on. But it seems that when I come here, I’m fairly quiet and often neutral…and ultimately, mostly ignored.
Oh well. It works both ways–I can always say that I come here for a little peace and quiet, away from a hectic and busy schedule where too many people know me too well.
Cool! Just like me! I’d like to get to know you better!
:smack:
Sorry.
